Alice J. Wisler has always enjoyed writing and sold her first short story to the David C. Cook Publishing Company in 1988. Since then she has been published by The Upper Room, ByLine Magazine, Standard Publishing's Devotions,The Canadian Writer's Journal, Sydney's Child, Carolina Parent, Inscriptions, The Writing Parent, Alive Now, BackHome Magazine, The Urban Hiker, Personal Journaling, Bereavement Magazine, The Food Writer, Carolina Woman, The Christian Communicator, We Need Not Walk Alone, and many North Carolina newspapers. Her contribution to the books, Feminine Writes (National Association of Women Writers, 2003), and Chicken Soup for the Recovering Soul, Daily Inspirations (2005), deal with writing through the heartache of grief. Alice was also a columnist at the How To Make A Family site. Now she writes for LoveToKnow's website. In 2000 under Daniel's House Publications, Alice's cookbook of memories, Slices of Sunlight was published. In spring of 2003, Down the Cereal Aisle made its debut. A novelist at heart, Alice looks forward to 2008 when her novel Rain Song will be published by Bethany House Publishers. Alice was the editor of the Wake County, NC, Compasionate Friends chapter's newsletter for two years and editor of LARGO - Life After Repeated Grief: Options (founded by Sascha Wagner). Tributes, an online grief magazine for bereaved parents and siblings, was founded by Alice in 2001 and for five years was sent each month to over 1,000 readers around the world. In 2006 it ceased publication. Since the death of her own four-year-old son, Daniel, on February 2, 1997, Alice has found writing to be a source of comfort and therapy. She led the writing workshop at The Compassionate Friends Regional Conference in Denver, Colorado, in April 2001 and presented the workshop Learning to Tell Your Story at the 25th National Conference of the Compassionate Friends in Salt Lake City, Utah, in July 2002. She led her "Writing the Heartache" workshop at the National Bereaved Parents/USA Gathering in June 2003, in Saint Louis, MO. Alice facilitated two workshops at the BP Gathering in Charleston, SC, in July 2004. She was the keynote speaker at the Atlanta Compassionate Friends Candle Lighting Remembrance Service December 4, 2004. She presented three workshops at the BP Gathering in Las Vegas in 2005. Alice enjoys teaching and speaking and is often a guest at support and writing groups, civic groups, seminars and conferences. Alice invites the bereaved parent to use this essential tool for healing - writing. |
