Dango, Arizona (Near Phoenix) - Fear Level 4

Location, Brief History and Description

Dango is located on the far eastern outskirts of what was once Scottsdale.  It is well known for its large open air trade market.  It is a small fortress-style, moderately prosperous ville with a fluctuating population of about 400.  Surrounding the ville proper is a stout rectangular wall covered in adobe.  There are five guard platforms; one at each corner of the wall, with one smaller additional platform to the left of the front gate.  The walls and platforms are manned and patroled day and night.  The gate itself is built from huge pieces of steel and metal bars.  The ville is reached from a paved access road leading in two directions, both eventually coming out onto old highways.  The area around the ville is barren and desert-like, with rolling hills, some small scrub trees and cacti.  A shallow muddy stretch of the Colorado River is a short distance to the North.

Originally a truck stop, the ville of Dango grew under the guidance of its founder Mary-Anne McKenzie.  McKenzie was a construction engineer that owned her own contracting firm near Flagstaff before the bombs fell.  When the dust cleared, she found herself alive.  Rallying a group of survivors about her (including several of her former workers), she managed to salvage several of the company vehicles.  Starting with supplies from various surviving warehouses, she and her band (known regionally as McKenzie's Crew) began the task of helping other survivors and assisting in the rebuilding of several settlements around the Arizona and Utah area.  What would later become the ville of Dango was her choice as a central base for the Crew's operations.  Over the next several years, McKenzie struck up a good relationship with the Convoy and opened up trade agreements with the surrounding villes that the Crew had helped to rebuild as well as with the remnants of the GAIA Project at Oracle.  After nearly a decade of slowly developing prosperity, McKenzie was unfortunately slain in a battle with walkin' dead while with a work detail that was scrounging for parts in the Phoenix deadlands.  The rest of the detail was saved by the appearance of a small posse of wasters.  The leader of the group, a somewhat shocking and mysterious individual know only as "The Old Man", was soon after made sheriff of the ville, seeming to have the full support of the people.  In Dango,The Old Man is in charge now - and his word is law.
