Conversion Kits and Target Pistols for HoE
by Matthew Weaver-Uzelac
.22 caliber pistol conversion kits
Even before the war shooting was expensive.  Some companies sold kits that would allow someone to easily convert their 9mm or 10mm pistols to .22 caliber rounds.  Essentially the kit consists of a new barrel, spring slide and magazine.  The weapons can be switched between the two calibers as easily as it takes to field strip the weapon.  The kits can be installed in 1d6 short actions.  A Quickness roll can reduce this time further.

.45 and .50 caliber carbine conversion kit
Back in the early decades of the 21st Century, the newly formed Sethtech company's first product was a conversion kit for the venerable Colt .45 auto pistol.  This kit replaced the slide and barrel of the handgun with the receiver, barrel and telescoping stock of a carbine.  The conversion between pistol/carbine (or vice versa) can be done without tools, and takes 4d20 minutes.  When the M82 was adopted as the standard sidearm for the Southern Military, several companies in Texas and Georgia "borrowed" the Sethtech plans and reworked them so they could produce kits to make .50 caliber carbines.  Though never officially adopted by the CSA military, officers would often use the carbine conversion kits for personal hunting weapons.  Also, quite a few found their way into Aircraft survival kits to be used as an emergency weapon.  Each carbine kit was equipped with a x2 scope that would snap on the top of the rifle.

Target Pistols
On both sides of the border, shooting events were very popular.  Target pistols are ones designed for competition.  Often these weapons were hand built with incredible attention paid to precision and quality control.  The result were weapons that were incredibly accurate.  After the human species decided to punch it's own timecard, any weapon that was usable was put into service.   When shooting from the hip, these pistols gain a +1 to the brainers shootin':pistol roll.  If the players take the time to draw a bead with the target pistol, the player gets an additional +1 to his aiming bonus for every action he spends aiming.  (for a total of +3.) Target pistols aren't rugged things.  They are considered to have a Reliability of 18.  This is only rolled if something happens to the gun like it is dropped from a height greater than 6 feet, or it is slammed into something.  If the weapon fails this roll it does not cease to function, but it looses it's shootin' bonus.  A gunsmith must fix the weapon to regain the bonus. Because it is real hard to be precise with a high rate of fire, all target pistols are single action.  The professionals who would use these weapons wouldn't need speed, they would need accuracy.

.357  and .38 target pistol: Based along an single action wheel gun design.

.22 caliber target revolver: A favorite among Olympic contenders.  This is a single action .22 with an 8 (rather than 6) shot cylinder.  The cylinder does not come out like a traditional revolver, and it must have the spent shell extracted and replaced with live ammo one at a time.  To empty a chamber and insert a fresh round takes one whole action.

.45 caliber target pistol: In some respects this looks like a standard Colt with a longer barrel.  In truth this is a new design that incorporates features like a hair trigger to make the weapon much more user friendly.

.30-06 caliber target pistol: Yes, this is a pistol.  It is almost as long as a scattergun.  This monster uses a bolt just like a hunting rifle to load a single .30 caliber round into the chamber to fire.  The advantage of this pistol is that it has incredibly long range.  The bad news is that you have only one shot to make the hit.
