"Minnie" and "Paul" (the twin Doom Blades) by Jesse VanValkenburg
Description: "Minnie" and "Paul" are an interesting variation on Steve Baxter's Doom Blades, which can be found at the HoE Library on the Pinnacle site. This pair of Doom Blades (a sword and an axe) was forged at the same time with glass found in the ruins of the cities of Minneappolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. These blades maintain a strange link with one another - the same link that these cities had in life. Many people lived in Minneappolis, but worked in St. Paul and visa versa, commuting everyday. When the bombs fell and the cities died, this link was transfered to the glass that later became the twin Doom Blades. Both "Minnie" and "Paul" are sentient and have distinct powers and personalities in addition to the normal powers associated with Doom Blades, as detailed below. For obvious reasons they are considered unique relics. The glass for the blades was originally sought after by a pair of young twin Doomsayers (members of the Cult o' Doom) who later went on to become Doombringers. When last seen, these Doombringers still had the blades.
Powers: "Minnie" is a broad sword (DB: +2, Speed: 1, Dam: str+2d8 AP2, 2 Strain) and "Paul" is a great, two-bladed axe (DB: +2, Speed: 2, Dam: str+2d10 AP2, 2 Strain). Each communicates mentally with its weilder if in contact with their body and can communicate with its twin over any distance (note that this does not mean the wielders can directly communicate - only the blades themselves). "Minnie" has a calm, rational personality and seems to try to keep both of the blades in competent hands. She often comes off as being an "older doting sister" to the axe. "Paul" on the other hand seems to glory in battle and is the more rash of the two. He also seems rather vain at times. The main ability the blades share is in allowing their wielders to "share" wounds and wind. If one of the wielder's is wounded, the damage and wind taken may be instead sent to the wielder of the other blade on a TN 7 faith roll by both wielders (both must agree to the action). This can be a dangerous maneuver, as one might accidently kill their "blade sister/brother" in the process. In addition to the normal Atomic Blast ability granted by other Doom Blades, both "Minnie" and "Paul" can impart the Ground Zero ability if a blue chip is spent, with the same raise bonuses as Atomic Blast if additional chips are spent.
Taint: Both "Minnie" and "Paul" have the same feedback disadvantage as other Doom Blades. |
