Griffstan Light Railway
A railway in 'G' guage
just for pleasure
Welcome to the Griffstan Light Railway. I have always wanted
a railway around my garden, but have been put off by all the mass of fine
details and strict rules as to how to go about it.
Now I am no good whatsoever at using levels, rulers,
compasses or any other thing that needs a little skill...
then.... I remembered my days on New Zealand Railways as a track worker on
the Otago Central Railway.
That railway was built on the surface without much preparation and using in
most places the gravel dug up from the many river beds around its
locations.
So I decided to give it a go, and also to put it on the
internet so that others with the same skills as myself may be given a little
hope that one day they too will run trains around their gardens....

This was the site that was
chosen, just outside the backdoor, it was a bark garden laid out on weed
cloth over 6 inches (150mm) top soil which in turn was over a good 60ft
(20mts) of hard conglomerate of alluvial rocks and sand, so there is not
much chance of slumping or sagging.
Plenty of room for extensions round the house and on over the 13 acres of
our property.
To start with an LGB
starter set was purchased from GRAJAC
SALES LTD. Graeme gave me much information and also on joining the LGB
Network New Zealand Group gives a good discount.
All LGB items are manufactured in Germany |
