Turn was formed at the beginning of the year 2000 and they used to play together despite the fact that they were all in different bands at the same time. However, when Turn had collectively written enough songs, the band members decided to leave their respective bands and made Turn their sole, permanent project.
The entire band is Irish, with Ollie and Ian from Kells and Gavin from Dublin. Ollie Cole is the focus of the band as he not only sings and plays guitar, but also writes the basis of the songs, creates the artwork and produces. Turn is his vision and he is the driving force behind everything the band do and has a say in everything that they do. Before Turn, Ollie worked as a producer in The Factory, where he worked with greats such as David Bowie, Garth Brooks and U2.
It was Ian Melady who, along with best friend and jamming partner Ollie, created the first signs of Turn. It was also Ian's sister Fiona who played keyboards in Turn's early days. However, they could not find the final part they needed to finish the band and it was only when he could not make a jamming session and Ollie asked his collegue at The Factory, Gavin Fox, to fill in on drums that it finally clicked.
Gavin Fox ended up playing bass live, but he also plays guitar and drums and so has a lot of say in the songs. Gavin admits to being the cynic of the band and is rarely happy with the bands sound and performance. Gavin's presence on stage and his musical input are the cornerstone of Turn's dynamics and stage presence.
