How To
Buy a Computer

Most people don't go about buying a computer in the right way. They make some major mistakes and because of these major mistakes they are rapidly dissatisfied with the computer that they have bought. Taking steps in advance might make a great difference.

Before you go into a computer store it's important to know exactly what you want. Don't let the salesman tell you what to buy. You're not going to be satisfied necessarily with what he tells you because he has reasons for wanting to sell a particular product. He might try to unload things that he has in stock or he has a surplus of or he might have a surfeit of other parts or he might sell you things in which he makes more profit.

Go to a computer consultant

Full disclosure: The writer of this website is a computer consultant.

Pay the computer consultant his fee and discuss the things that you need for the computer. After you are armed with this information, find a store that will sell you the combination of parts that is best for you. Not all stores sell all of the parts. Some of them will try to talk you into getting other parts.

Get a price quotation for everything that the store wants to sell you and after you have gone to several stores that give you what you had requested or that recommend alternate items, take the stack of items that you want that you were offered and go back to that same computer consultant. Again, pay him for his time, and ask him which is the best deal based on the price quotations.

It's important to go back to the same computer consultant. He knows what you want and he will be able to understand how to evaluate the different parts that everybody has. After all, the price quotations that you receive are all going to reflect different parts with different brand names and different methods of installation. Your computer consultant is going to be able to find or recommend the best way to find the right combination of items for your needs, at the best price, for the products that you are offered. If the products are not ideal he will tell you what you are sacrificing so that you can make an informed decision about the right kind of computer to get.

All of this is important.

Most people leave it out because they are so excited about the fact that they are buying a new computer that they cannot calm down enough to be able to go about their purchase in a knowledgeable way.

Now that you have an understanding of the importance of going about it in a gradual, cautious way you should not make the same mistakes that all too many other people make. Buy your computer carefully and cautiously after getting the right information from your paid consultant.

You'll be happy you did.
