Associating Programs With Files

Some files will open with certain programs that can be set by the computer. Windows knows which program to used based on the three-letters after the period in the file name.

To associate applications or programs with a file, find Winfile.exe from the Windows folder. Run Winfile, click Associate, 'match' the file type with the application that will open it in the future.

As an example, any file that ends in .DOC is run by Word. In order to make that association, follow the instructions above, associating Winword.exe with .doc files.
