Before you reformat

Reformatting means that all of your data will be deleted. Before taking that drastic step, it would be wise to consider some other options:

Try a full Scandisk in DOS and in Windows
Defragment the hard drive
Check the registry with Scanreg
Use the System file checker if your version of Windows supports it
Disable all programs that are running in the background at start up
Empty the Windows Temporary folder
Empty the temporary internet files folder
Use third party diagnostic software
