I attached tape to each book, with the bottom of the tape starting exactly 1” from the bottom of the spine so that the living room would remain esthetically tolerable and each book was assigned a shelf number.
The basic bibliographical data was entered in Hebrew and in English by all members of the family, including our first-grader.
The next question to be resolved is the issue of accessing each book. I had to select a classification system, but rejected my favorite, Dewey, because of its notorious lacunae in 296 Judaica CLARIFY THE DEWEY TITLE while others, such as Library of Congress, offered no convincing or definitive reasons for selecting them.
The author received his MLS from LIU. He now works in Israel as a consultant in computerized library automation.
