The profession

The statistics on sanity are
that one out of every four Americans
are suffering
from some form of mental illness.

Counselors and consultants may find themselves in many professions that would seem unlikely. A good computer consultant helps people how to use their computer better by calming them down, making them feel confident and secure about their computer work. He may also help them succeed with their existing knowledge. That is no less important than helping to find innovative methods and solutions.

Knowledge of the computer is thus equal in imporance to the ability to work with the people. Patience and a sense of humor do not hurt either. It relaxes the client.

Similarly, a reference librarian would also require counseling skills. That position does not exist in Israel, but in some other Western countries, such as the United States, people may query the reference librarian on any issue or subject, and the librarian has to be prepared to find the resource to answer with anything from the world's knowledge. It is a great feeling of power.
