The ability to express an idea is well nigh as important as the idea itself. - Bernard Baruch |

Many people will agree that it is important to have worthwhile discussions, but nobody seems to be able to explain how to go about that procedure. This website will help.
We do too much talking, and not enough serious discussing.
Although non-directed talking or chatting, whether on a personal level or via the Internet, helps people vent their feelings, it does not always leads to a desirable conclusion.
That is why serious, goal-oriented discussions, such as those held on Jewish Psych and other Jewish information forums, are moderated.
Arguments and debates present reasons for and against a proposition or proposal. Debates are usually more formal, and they are often conducted between professionals. They usually follow rules and logical arguments.
You may think of an argument as a fight or as a noisy exchange of forces between undisciplined partners. That is certainly correct in some cases. However, it could also be a reasoned presentation of a point of view.
Arguments and debates offer opposing sides the opportunity to present their cause and to challenge their partners.
This section about discussions does not include issues related to solving problems or making decisions. Those issues are analyzed separately.
