Infighting

Quote from Korach

Infighting has plagued Jews for much of our history. The Biblical Korach, who "enjoyed" the assistance of the "erev rav," is an excellent example of this phenomenon.

A point of view that reflects the rules of good conduct and debate is acceptable and often welcome. A fight often seeks to contravene these rules. It is generally counterproductive to good relations in a society, and it often impedes or prevents progress or success.

Infighting goes one step further. It seeks to destroy society itself.

Those who have experienced group dynamics realize that a group that becomes involved in inner conflicts soon deviates from its original, established goals. The resolution of the current conflict replaces the original goal.

For this reason, most institutions require leaders, moderators, or mediators, who will remain true to their goals, and who will focus the direction of important issues.
