Dealing with Hate

Always forgive your enemies.
Nothing annoys them so much
- Oscar Wilde

Unfortunately, hate is one of the most difficult things to deal with. When the Temple was destroyed, the Jewish Temple was destroyed because of hate. One of the possible reasons was the fact that there is no way handle it. When there is hate the people involved do not listen, they are not subject to discussion or evaluation of things of issues in a rational way and there is very little that can be done.

This is unfortunate. Usually in these psychological questions we discuss possibilities of offering people hope for different questions. That’s one of the goals of psychology.

An exception to this effort to give people hope is hate and in order to have hope the hate itself must be reduced so that finer issues can be evaluated and discussed.

Psychology is based on sitting down and talking. Hate on the other hand is based on the refusal to sit down and discuss issues in a rational manner. It is therefore the opposite of what psychology stands for.

In cases in which there is hate, the first stage must be to remove the hate before any meaningful talk can be held. There is no way to discuss things in a rational way while also maintaining feelings of hate.
