Can a person who shows intense hatred towards a family member ever return to normalcy?
Not immediately. There are several requirements:
After these requirements are met, will treatment be successful?
In many cases, yes.
How can we be so confident about the positive outcome of the treatment?
The hatred is usually not the result of a psychological disorder or mental illness. It can result from bad advice that was taken to the extreme and leading to unfortunate results. This behavior could indeed lead to a severe psychological disturbance. In such cases intensive help will be required by qualified personnel.
However, the family can often be optimistic and they may hope that this will not be the case. When the patient is determined to resolve the problems and when those surrounding the patient, including the targets of the patient's hate, are prepared to cooperate, then the treatment can be completed within a reasonable amount of time.
