This is the frieze that crowns the facade
of the temple. It contains a row of baboons, a register with Ramses' royal
cartouches enclosed by royal cobras, and a register with a hieroglyphic
text giving the king's royals names and titles:
The baboons are shown with their hands
raised in adoration of the (rising) sun. The Ancient Egyptians believed
baboons played a role in helping the sun god Ra defeat the nightly darkness.
