I think it's a pretty good show, though not as good as Huan Zhu Ge Ge. The story took place mostly in the 1930s. It's mainly about a broken up family. The father, Lu Zhen Hua, had nine wives in all. He used to be a "si ling", leader of an army, and lived in northern China. When he retired, he brought his eighth and ninth wife with him to Shanghai, also running away from the Japanese, who invaded northern China during that time. The eighth wife, Wen Pei, had two daughters: Xin Ping (the daughter the father loved the most) and Yi Ping (played by Zhao Wei/Vicki Zhao), but Xin Ping died at an early age. The ninth wife, Xue Qing, always wanted things her own way and was jealous of the other wives, and she had four children: (from oldest to youngest) Er Hao (son), Ru Ping (daughter, played by Lin Xin Ru/Ruby Lin), Meng Ping (daughter), and Er Jie (son). Yi Ping's best friend, Fang Yu, played a big part in the show. Two other important people in the show were He Shu Huan and Du Fei (played by Su You Peng/Alec Su), who were reporters. There were also Li Chen De (Li Fu Guan), who used to work for Lu Zhen Hua in the army, his wife, and his daughter Ke Yun. Wang Yan, who played Qin Er in HZGG, was also in the show although she didn't play a big part. She was Lu Zhen Hua's lover, Ping Ping, who died many years ago and was the reason he had so many wives; he would marry any woman who looked like her in any way. I won't ruin the story for you if you haven't watched it, but I'll just tell you a little. The show was mainly about Yi Ping and how she deals with her hate of her father, Xue Qing, and her half brothers and half sisters. Meanwhile, she falls in love with He Shu Huan, the man Ru Ping also loved. The other problem was that Du Fei was in love with Ru Ping. Yi Ping and her mom were very poor, so she took a job as a singer at a night club, against her parents' wish. A year later, because of a tragic incident in the Lu family, Ru Ping wanted to commit suicide and left a letter in her room. By that time, Yi Ping had already made peace with her father and siblings. Xue Qing, who had a secret lover, had left the family and took Er Jie, who wasn't really Lu Zhen Hua's son, with her. As war broke out between China and Japan, Er Hao, who was in love with Fang Yu, and Shu Huan left to join the army. Du Fei had left soon after Ru Ping vanished to cover reports on the war. Four years later, Du Fei found Ru Ping working as a nurse for the Red Cross. She told him that she realized soon after she left that he was the one she had loved all along. They were soon married in a small village. Meanwhile in Shanghai, Yi Ping, Fang Yu, Meng Ping, Ke Yun, and the others opened an orphanage for children who had lost their parents to the war. After another four years, in August of 1945, the war was finally over and China had won. The group went to the train station to pick up their two heros. They found Er Hao safe and sound, but he told them that Shu Huan had been badly wounded and the last he saw of him was when he was taken away by the Red Cross. As the days passed, Yi Ping waited, and waited, and waited... |
