The graveyard is an irregular four sided shape covering an area of approximately 0.345 hectares. It is surrounded by a concrete post and wire fence, constructed circa 1950, and has an entrance on the south-west side. Within this an earlier bank and ditch, which are roughly rectangular, enclose the church and graves on three sides. There are burials on the east, north and west sides of the church, which is situated near the southern boundary of the graveyard. There is a walled enclosure in the northern section of the graveyard that contains the graves of members of the Bond family of Newtownbond house. The graveyard contains thirty-five gravestones mainly dating from the early 19th and 20th centuries. Stones that litter the graveyard may mark the position of yet more remains. Due to their orientation most of the inscriptions are discernible; in one or two cases gravestones have tilted forward and are very well preserved from the weather. The earliest date inscribed on a gravestone is 1780. A minority of gravestones include other information apart from the name and date of birth or death of the persons interred in the graves. Although placenames are found on eight of the twenty-three graves outside the Bond section the majority of family names are common to the locality. The three most common surnames in the graveyard are:- Bond, Carrigy and Fealy |
