Sumo was picked up off the streets by Dog Control, his owners were contacted and informed of his whereabouts.  Their words  "keep him".

Sumo was 8 years old, he had been a devoted dog to this family, now he was too much trouble.   Looking at Sumo it was obvious that he'd had very little care.   He could not lift his leg to go pee as a male dog does and he limped badly.  His coat was a mess, all matted and he was absolutely filthy.

He was a gentle soul, no sign of aggression and his eyes pleaded for help.

I had him released from the pound and placed him in foster care, where he was given a wash and a trim. We found out why he could not lift his leg as he was totally matted between his legs and after the knot was cut out we found in the middle of it a huge thistle ball.   The relief of this was evident as no sooner had we cut this away and Sumo began to run about the yard, bouncing like a young puppy.  This clean up was followed by professional grooming by  Dogworkz http://www.dogworkz.co.nz/.  The cost of this was donated by Doug & Angela Little of Indara Kennels, Breeders of Indara German Shepherds.

SUMO
now called
CEBO
Bill came into Sumo's life following a referral from Clinton who had given a home to another of the rescue dogs.  Bill did not want to have a young dog as he was in the landscaping business and did not want to have the concerns of a young dog digging up property.    Bill and Sumo hit it off famously as you can see from the photos.
Investigations into Sumo's background (he had a tattoo) with the help of Les Pauling, also a GSD Breeder, located Sumo's breeder who accompanied me to meet Bill and Cebo (Bill had now renamed him Cebo) and she bought along pictures of Cebo as a puppy, photos of his mother and father, plus a copy of his pedigree.

This unwanted older dog, who was left at the pound totally unkempt, and was destined to be put to sleep, now had a history.   His father was a champion, his mother a gold medal winner.  Cebo may never be in the show ring but the courage and trust this dog has shown despite his previous life, makes him equal to any champion.
Cebo has now lived with Bill for about 6 months.  He recently had a veterinarian check and pronounced fit and healthy.
May they have many happy years together.
Looking at "Cebo" now, (far right) just shows what German Shepherd Rescue is all about.
