Spark Story:Crystal And The Sparks
Crystal was sad. It was a very rainy Saturday morning and she had to stay inside. Crystal frowned. She had no one to play with.
As Crystal looked out the window she noticed that it wasn't raining quite as hard. As she watched, a beautiful rainbow appeared, arched across the sky. It seemed so bright that Crystal almost felt she could reach out and hold its colors in her hand.
Crystal opened the door to the yard. The ground was still very wet. She was just about to go back inside and look for her rubber boots when she saw something sparkling on the ground. It looked like a very large raindrop caught on a blade of grass.
Crystal bent down and picked it up. It shimmered in her hand. As she held it up to take a closer look, she realized that the rainbow colors were reflected through the object, creating a pool of bright colors on the ground.
There were reds and yellows and oranges and greens and blues and violets - all the colors of the rainbow were swirling around her feet. As she watched, the colors changed shape and she was standing at the bottom of a beautiful stairway. The first step was red, the next orange, the next one yellow, then green, then blue...
Slowly Crystal started climbing the colorful stairway. She climbed higher and higher. All of a sudden Crystal was standing at the top of the rainbow. Behind her were the colorful steps and ahead of her the rainbow bent down like a giant slide!
Crystal couldn't resist. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and slid down the rainbow! If felt like flying and gliding and sliding all at once.
Then...
Bump! Crystal landed at the end of the rainbow. All around her on the ground were jewels of different colors - red rubies, blue sapphires, green emeralds, and glistening diamonds. She sat on the ground for a moment wondering where she was and what she had just done.
"Get up! Where have you been! I've been waiting for you for so-o-o long."
Crystal looked up. In front of her was a little girl, all dressed in bright pink and covered with stars.
Crystal was very surprised, but she still remembered her manners. "Hello," she said. "My name's Crystal. What's yours?"
The little girl looked at Crystal. "Oh, I thought you knew who I was," she replied. "My name's Jewel and I'm a Spark. I've been waiting for you to come down the rainbow and be my new friend."
"What's a Spark?" asked Crystal.
"That's right, you don't know what a Spark is! Why don't we go and meet the other Sparks? Then you'll understand."
"But, how do we find them?" Crystal asked.
"The fireflies will take us," answered Jewel.
Suddenly, a cloud of blinking lights was all around Crystal. They were tiny fireflies, just like he ones Crystal saw in her own garden, so she wasn't afraid.
The little fireflies flew around Crystal and then stretched in a long line down a path in front of her. Crystal followed the line until the fireflies formed a flashing archway. It was the same shape as the rainbow. Crystal walked through the archway to find nine little girls, dressed all in bright pink and covered with stars. They were playing games, and running, and holding hands, and singing, and dancing.
"Hello, my name's Crystal and I'm a friend of Jewel's," Crystal said.
The Sparks stopped for a moment. One of them asked Crystal and Jewel, "Why don't you come and join our game?"
But just then the littlest Spark stepped forward. She said: "First Crystal should know about the Spark Promise."
"What's that?" asked Crystal. "Is it hard to learn?"
"Oh no," said the littlest Spark. "You just have to know what a promise is. Then you have to promise to share and be a friend."
"I can do that. I know what a promise is. And, I promise to share and be a friend," said Crystal.
In less than a moment Crystal was playing games and singing and dancing and laughing with all the other Sparks. Jewel threw the rubies and emeralds and sapphires and diamonds into the air. They danced colorfully around the Sparks, mingling with the bright stars.
The littlest Spark come over to talk to Crystal. She said: "The stones are important because each one stands for something. Rubies stand for love, emeralds stand for sharing, sapphires stand for friendship, and diamonds stand for peace. All those things are part of being a Spark."
Crystal felt very happy. She sang and laughed and played with her new friends.
All of a sudden, she realized she had something in her pocket. It was the large raindrop she found when her adventure began. She pulled the raindrop out of her pocket and held it up. Jewel came over to look at the raindrop with her.
"That's a prism," said Jewel, "You can see all the colors of the rainbow through it when you hold it up to the light."
"Thank you," said Crystal, "I didn't know what it was. But I think it will take me home now."
In the blink of an eye, Crystal was standing in her yard on the wet grass. She held the prism in her hand. "I promise to share and be a friend," she said.
Crystal smiled the Spark smile of friendship. The sun came out and the raindrops shone on the grass like a million sparks.

Brownies.
Program:The girls are encouraged to develop their own
program. They will sit in a circle with their leader/s and make
suggestions about what they want to do next week. In a Gumnut
Guide case it may be who is going to bring the newspaper for a
craft, what do we need to wear when we go on our nature walk.
This is part of the new strategy of the Australian Guide Program
which is the recognition that all girls are capable of planning
and implementing their own program.

Story: Tall Do All
The activities which Beavers undertake all come within the world of "Lange Doener" (Tall Do All). Apart from being a source of ideas for programmes the story is also very suitable for reading to the children.
As said, the story takes place within the world of Tall Do All. Tall Do All is someone who offers Beavers the opportunity to play in and around his house. Tall Do All lives on the outskirts of the village. When he is at home he hoists his flag.
For the Beavers in the neighborhood this is a sign, meaning that they are welcome in the house of Tall Do All. Beavers are busy inside with various things: drawing, painting, sawing and hammering. They always play all over the house. Tall Do All helps the Beavers wherever he can, no effort is too much for him.
He can also tell wonderful, exciting stories and knows an amazing number of games.
He is also a magician on top of all that! Of course it is not real magic, but ... whenever he has made something it is as if the world has become a happier place and has changed a little for the better. In the Beavers' eyes, of course, that is. Like when he made an aeroplane out of a ladder, a few planks and an old vacuum cleaner. Yes, he really did that! All the Beavers who were there saw it. They got on the plane with Tall Do All and he pronounced a strange formula. The next moment they were amid the clouds, high above their village. They waved to the other Beavers who had remained below.
Tall Do All also built a submarine out of old carton boxes. That was a real adventure! Believe it or not, they went down into the pond, joining the fish. It is unbelievable, but it is true. Tall Do All can do anything, really anything!
Grown ups who cannot grasp all this say that is a "strange sort of fellow".
In the portfolio Tall Do All tells about what he has done together with the Beavers in the village, and of course with his other friends: Oliver the hamster, Alex the red tom cat, with Carrot the rabbit and Twitter and Twaddle, Tall Do All's two rice- birds. Let's not forget Quilty who is always constructing tents, Pompadom who cannot get enough of music and Frederick Tearitup who has to tear a newspaper up as soon as he sees one. It is also the story about the Beavers: Frank, Mark, Miriam, Jenny and many others. The Beavers are allowed to do anything, that is why they can do so many different things.

Daisy Girl Scout Story:
Dear Daisy Girl Scout
You are a Daisy Girl Scout and are named after "Daisy" Gordon Low. Daisy Low started Girl Scouts a long time ago in 1912. Her real name was Juliette, but most people called her "Daisy".
Juliette was born in 1860 on Halloween in a place called Savannah, Georgia. Her uncle gave her the name "Daisy" when she was a baby. He looked at her one day and said "I bet she's going to be a daisy!" He though she was some 'baby!' Ever since then people called her Daisy.
Daisy had an older sister named Nellie and four younger sisters and brothers named Alice, Willy, Mabel and Arthur. Her father was a cotton trader, and her mother was a homemaker, busy taking care of all the children, the family and their house. They loved in a big house in Savannah (it is now a Girl Scout programme centre).
As a young girl, Daisy did many things. She liked to climb trees, play with her brothers, sisters and cousins, take care of animals, start and run clubs, write stories, draw pictures, tell jokes, write and be in plays, explore places, and do many other things.
One time she saved a kitten from being drowned in a flood. Another time she kept a cow from getting rally sick by putting her mother's blanket on the cow overnight. Her mother did not like that too much, because the blanket fell off the cow in the morning and the cow stepped on it. At least the cow did not get sick.
Daisy's father and grandmother know that she loved animals, especially horses. When they thought she was old enough to take care of one, they bought her a horse. She named the horse Fire and spent many hours riding him, grooming him and talking to him. He was black with four white feet. Daisy was very, very, happy to have a horse and took very good care of him.
Later on, Daisy grew up and married a man named Willy Low. They went to live in England and Scotland, countries on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
They loved together for many years, but then Willy died. Other sad things happened to Daisy, too. She had problems with her ears and became partially deaf.
Even with these sad events in her life, she went on to do many wonderful things. She heard about Boy Scouts and Girl Guides from her friend Lord Robert Baden- Powell. Daisy decided to start the same thing for girls in the United States. After leading a few troops of Girl Guides in Scotland, she came back to the United States and started Girl Scouts. On March 12, 1912 the first troop met. That is why March 12th is the Girl Scout birthday.
