LEGEND OF THE FRIENDSHIP STICK

The wood of the Friendship is alive and solid. It is slightly curved to fit the curve of the earth. It symbolizes the friendship that can grow as do the wonderful trees of the forest.

The green circle at the bottom is for Faith - faith in God and faith in one another. It is so placed because it is the basis of a happy & meaningful life.

The next four (4) circles represent the Races of the World. They stand for equality. They stand close together, indicating that all people are equal and every person is capable of becoming a loyal friend.

The green of Hope is above the Races. It is hoped that people everywhere will try to overcome any differences and human feelings, failings.  Both Hope and Faith are combinations of emotional feelings we cannot adequately describe. Both Faith and Hope are green, a combination of hues. The four Races bounded by Faith and Hope can produce unity, a working together for the good of all. The Four Paths leading toward a central goal signifythe attainment of the unity.

The Smiling Face is a result of friendship based on Faith, Hope, and Unity. It is a reminder of the person with whom we promise to be friends. To be greeted by the smiling face of a friend is one of the two greatest joys we can experience.

The Race is crowned by green, the Girl Scout color, indicating loyalty to you as a friend.

On the back a cross is carefully placed opposite the four Races to show that peace and charity can exist among all people.

A Friendship Stick is carried by its giver. It shows time, thought, and effort and is truly giving something of one's self to another.

Here is another version

At the top is a face with one brown eye and one blue eye (the smiling eyes of Scouts around the world). The face also has a smiling mouth which is the symbol of international friendship.

Below the face is a white X outlined with black on top, red on the sides and yellow on the bottom. This is the crossroads where all the world comes together for peace.

Next is a green stripe for hope. Then red, white, black and yellow bands. One band for each of the four races on the earth.

On the back a green cross is carefully placed across the four bands - to show peace and charity can exist among all people.

Next is a green circle, it symbolizes our faith in God, ourselves as Scouts, yourself as an individual and the GS Promise and Law.

This can be painted on a peeled stick or can be carved and thenpainted.
