Coloured Sand
Sandra's Guide Pages Home

If you want to do activities that involved coloured sand but either can't find any or can't afford it, try this alternative:

Pour out a little heap of salt on to a piece of paper. Then take a stick of coloured chalk and rub it though the salt. Sideways on is best and the salt acts as an abrasive. Continue until you have your salt coloured, then put it in your bottle or whatever.  Then start on the next colour.  It probably works better than sand as salt is white to start with so the colours will be clearer.

Thanks to Lynne & Charlotte from GuidingUK for suggesting and explaining this method.
