The Five Zones

Circle sit
Get everyone to stand in a circle, all facing clockwise so that you are staring at the back of the next person’s head, only about a foot away (in other words the circle is almost as small as you can make it).  Then on a given signal, each girl should sit on the knee of the person behind – it really can be done!  This is a good icebreaker and great for teamwork.

Action song
If you need some practice in working together, try these actions for the campfire song a ram sam sam:

1. Get everyone in a circle, facing inwards, with people standing right next to each other – no gaps.

2. Each person slides their right foot to the right, in front of their neighbour’s left.  Once the foot is between their right hand neighbour’s feet, stop.  Each person should have 2 different people’s feet between her own, and nobody should have crossed legs.  It’s easier to do than to explain!

3. While you’re doing this, people will probably need to grab hold of each other to stop falling over.

4. Get everyone to put their arms round their neighbour’s waists.  Then you’re ready to start!

Here are the actions to use:
* Every time you sing “ram sam sam” everyone should lean forwards from the waist.
* Whenever you sing “gooli gooli” everyone wiggles their hips, and
* Each time you sing “a ravi” everyone leans backwards from the waist.

Once you’ve got the hang of it, try it faster!

Leading the blind
A much quieter and more individual way of working on trust is to go for a walk with half of the girls blindfolded and led by a partner.  If you do this make sure you first issue warnings to those leading to be aware of the problems of the "blind" person, and also ensure that you only blindfold girls who are happy to try it.
