OPEN:RACHEL
choreographed by Jennifer Allen

Allen’s newest work is a meditation on what it means to remain open in a contemporary world - tearing open the inner hopes and disappointments of a young dancer from the perspective of one fictitious girl, Rachel.

Open heart, Open mind, Open spaces, Open:Rachel - the can of worms that is a girl’s life. Videos of pb&j sandwich making go hand-in-hand with Gelsey Kirkland and Rhythmic Gymnastics. A video and sound score created by Allen features music by Zac Love, Unwound and Deerhoof. Performed live by Allen, Katy Pyle and Heather Olson.

Open:Rachel was begun at the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire and has been shown in development at Dixon Place - NYC (Crossing Boundaries series), Bryant Lake Bowl - Minneapolis (Saturday is the new monday series), and Danspace Project - NYC (Draftwork series).
