The biggest visual change in the 1980s were: - The loss of beards in the Navy (1984), and - the move from the flamboyant "High Visibility" paint schenes to the tactical "Low Visibility" colors of the grayscale. |

Then-Lieutenant Michael Scott "Spike" Speicher (left) in front of 406. Spike was a Gunslinger from 1983-86. He's currently listed as "MISSING/CAPTURED" which is akin to POW. Flying the first mission into Iraq on January 17th, 1991, his VFA-81 Sunliners F/A-18 was shot down.
