The Ideal IND
Subway for Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn
Here is a map I drew of the NYC subway which
shows several changes I feel should be made to the current system.
They are (in no particular order):
Swap the E and F's Manhattan trunk
lines. Justification:
The tracks at West 4th are arranged such that crossing the 8th ave local
to the lower 6th ave line and vice versa would be in a straight line.
The current situation has them all switching off their respective tracks.
Also, currently 8th ave has no South Brooklyn lines while 6th ave has no
downtown lines. This balances everything out (somewhat).
Send the V to 179st as a local and
the F as the express, send the V and G to Church Ave as locals and the
F as the express. Justification: Express tracks were meant
for express trains. Plus, currently there is no direct train from
the local section west of Continental to the one east of Continental.
And, express service on the Culver will draw riders away from the Brighton.
