Fereydoon Farahani

Fereydoon (also written as Fereidoon or Fereydoun) was born in 1975 in Iran. He began to develop his passion for singing when he was just about 12 years old. Later he learned playing Setar and also joined literature clubs.

In 1994, he started his study architecture at Isfahan Art University and parallel with that he was learning and practicing the traditional vocal system of Persian music(Radif).

In three next years, he got also a deeper knowledge about singing in Isfahan school (style) and Persian modelation singing (Morakkab khani). Ali Asghar Shahzeydi and Mansour A'zamikia were his two main teachers in this period.

In 1998, he found his interest in Iranian country and folkloric music. It was also a turn to learn playing Divan and studying about this instrument, within the context of Kurdish and Turkish music. His teachers were Jamal Kheyriye and Babak Sharifi.

Fereydoon composes most of his songs and writes some of lyrics. Many musicians he work with, are young talents from the Iranian student community. They share a new view on Persian traditional music and take a certain part of a bigger experimental music stream around the country.

Professional solo and group concerts (Nobang, Sootedelan, Haghjooyan) in Isfahan, Tehran, Arak, Zanjan, Khorramabad and other cities from 1995. Participating in other's concerts.

Giving music courses (singing and instruments:Setar, Divan) from 1999.

Participating in the competition of the main Iranian music festivals (1998-2000).

Composing and Performing film music, mainly for TV documentaries and series (Lost dreams of Khajoo, Saraye Zarnegaar, Harime ferdous and Ravaghe manzare doost).

Performing music on Jame Jam TV and local TV senders. Broadcasting on radio Zurich and Belgian televison.

Co-organizing academic seminars about Persian traditional music and architecture, and participating in them.

Forming Haghjooyan ensemble and performing the biggest spiritual concerts in Isfahan (July 2000 & March 2001), which got lots of attention between audience and musicians because of it's innovating style.

Fereydoon is now working on his new concert with Haghjooyan (Oktober/November 2002,Isfahan).
