My Personal Style:
Practicing hairdesigning for 30 years!
Being one of four brothers in a family owned business has been one of my life's most "hair splitting" experiences.  Not only did we grow up together, along with one sister, we were all packed into a small house that makes our hair salon look like a mansion! It seemed early on that each of us boys had a gift with hair and straightaway we pursued our training and education in related fields.  If we followed our family "roots" we'd probably discover that our ancestors include many a barber or hairstylist.

Uniquely we'd all gotten along so well that after four years of training with master hairstylists, taking classes and practicing together in our hometown Erie, Pennsylvania, it was an easy decision to move west and start up a hair salon together.  I initiated the move to Phoenix, and one by one the brothers and the rest of the family followed.  So began Gulick Brothers, with Dave, Chuck, and myself.

Running a hairsalon together took on a "style" of its own as we untangled the challenges of operating a business and being with each other more hours than we ever had growing up.  One of the very best parts about it is that we've each gotten to develop and feature our own strengths and interests in the business, and do what we each uniquely do best for our customers.  Our family gatherings probably look different than most, as we would spend the day at the salon cutting, perming, coloring, styling, all the family members' hair!  Our business is 25 years strong and we are proud of what we've accomplished together and the close family relationships we've developed.

On the formal side: while in Erie, Pennsylvania, I trained with my first Master Hairdesigner, Carl Noce, at the age of 19.  Following that were the Ziegerilli Brothers, and Martin Parsons, and all the while the very influential teachers, Dave and Chuck, each being a master hairstylist.  We have as many savvy and sophisticated professional clients these days as we do families and elderly, so to broaden my knowledge of styles and trends and not to limit my awareness to just local "looks"... I've taken countless courses in L.A., San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Chicago, New York.  People's hair is different all across the nation - New York, I must say, being the most unusual.  I've studied at RK Tricology Institute, and in seminars by Clairol, Wella, Matrix, Redkin, and just recently, Franesi.  I don't just want to be known for being able to give a really good haircut: it is important to me to stay current with styles, treatments, and cuts for all ages.

My family alone could keep us busy cutting all day!  I have five children and my beautiful wife, Carol (of 31 years).  Between us, there's a lot of hair!  Todd, Amy, Scott, Jenny and Neal - almost all grown now.  What's the wildest "hair thing" my kids asked me to do?  The boys asked me to shave football numbers into the hair on their scalp and Amy wanted pink hair one time.  We had great fun with it.  My business has fortunately allowed me to be around for my family and pursue other interests as well.  Family time is very important to me, and I also enjoy my church Bible Study's, Men's Groups, motor sports, and  those "quiet" moments of just reading.  Our future gives us much to look forward to and we are excited about all the possibilities.
