DUKW-353

This is the home of my radio controlled model DUKW. There's not much here at the moment, I'll update it when my parents stop complaining about me using the computer.

This is the radio controlled lorry I'll be using for the drive train. It's a 1:14 Tamiya King Hauler which is about 60cm long and has two driven rear axles and a 3 speed servo shifted gearbox, ideal for a DUKW in this scale. I'll need to build a driven front axle for it so it can climb slipways etc.

Update - 12/11/01:

I've decided to abandon the front driven axle for the moment, as I found out the parts I need to build it will cost me about 130 pounds! Another guy from my local model boat club by the nake of Carl is also thinking of building a radio controlled DUKW, so if we can find a full size DUKW in Kent somewhere which we can go and measure, we're going to use the dimensions from a real DUKW to make a set of plans. From the plans we can then make a master hull, then make fibreglass copies. The master will probably be based on my experiments with the Tamiya RC lorry components, so there will be cutouts in the lower hull for the drive shafts and suspension mountings to fit into. This could well turn into a very long and rather expensive project! :)

See also the Cygnets MBC Web page for some pictures of the steel hull I plan to build into a sailing-only DUKW. I bought this hull from Pete Simpson and when I remember the address I'll post a link to his site here so you can take a look at his DUKW as well.
