PEOPLE IN DREAMS
Practical dream work Real dreams featuring people
People are the most common feature in dreams. Some dreams are about abstract
subjects such as art and maths. However, humans are social beings and most
dreams are about people and relationships.
It would be nice if you had a dream about a person and the dream was about them. But things are not as simple as that.
However, people are more likely to be symbols for someone else, or something else. Say you have a dream about a person called mark Butcher. That dream could easily be a play on words - it could be symbolic of someone behaving in a callous - butcherous - way.
In my experience people rarely play themselves in dreams. I often dream about my grandfather, but when I look into the dream in more detail the dream is about me. Grandfather is simply a symbol for old age, it may suggest I am feeling a bit under the wheather. And a dream about my grandfather dying is often a symbol for my own health getting better. Thats because death in dreams signifies a new beginning. That temporary period of old age/ill health has come to an end.
Friends may often be symbols for other friends. So if you dream about a friend it may be a symbol for another friend or indeed a relative who has acted in a friendly way.
Dreaming about a person may mean you are dreaming about that aspect of your personality which is like them. So if you dream of your mother it may mean yoiu are dreaming about the mothering protective tendencies within you.
Quite often I've dreamt about a family member and the dream does not fit at all. But if you take the dream and apply it to another family member who is close to the one you dreamt about then the dream works perfectly. I know it sounds mad - but it works. Dream about uncle Jim and the dream may actually be about uncle Jim's son. Dream about your mother and the dream may be about your mothers mother(grandmother). Dream about your friend and it may be about another friend n the same group. Dream about someone at work and it may be about someone else at work.
You may also dream about someone to symbolise what they do. If you dream about someone who is a librarian then the dream may be about a task which you are performing which is quite academic. Dreaming about a nerdy computer user may signify the dream is about some computer task you have to perform. Dream about a gossiper then it may actually be about you and your own gossiping.
People as synonyms. Dreams can symbolise their name. To dream of a man named John Butcher may actually relate to someone behaving like a butcher - maybe they have behaved callously towards you - butchering your emotions so to speak. Also You may dream about someone called John Book and the dream relates to some kind of book.
People symbolise emotions. People can symbolise what they mean to
you. To dream of a grumpy teacher walking into your house may mean that you
are fed up. Dream of a beautiful woman/man may symbolise that you are about
to have a good day. Often when I dream of a beautiful woman it is followed
the next day by me having a good day. On other occasions I dream of a beautiful
woman and I may take a particularly good photograph or paint a very good picture.
