FARMS : Farms are symbols of growth. But they are also linked to growth
on a major scale. They can link to thoughts and feelings and ways of thinking
that we are trying to encourage in others. If you were trying to influence
others and even teach them new ideas then that maybe what has triggered the
dream. Farms may also be about us trying to develop ourselves and may link
to people, ideas and places which are helping and encouraging our development.
That development may not always be thought of as 'good' as it can quite easily
represent new bad habits and groups of people whom maybe leading us astray.
KEY WORDS(Pick a quote which captures your feelings right now. Think especially
of the day before the dream) :
- "encouraging"
- "teaching new ideas"
- "learning bad habits"
- "cultivate"
- "making a systematic attempt to encourage certain ways of thinking"

DESERT : Growth and plant life in dreams can link to several things
but above all it symbolises ways in which you are developing and how something
is increasingly meaningful in your life. It may refer to a relationship or
to ideas that are healthy within your mind right now. Deserts, however, are
not as positive and they signify that something has recently(usually the day
before) become a lot less meaningful and important to you. That maybe a relationship
which you have realised is not as deep. It maybe is symbolic of your life
as a whole and how you feel depressed in general or as if life is holding
no meaning. But it more likely refers to specific aspects of your life - an
idea or interest which no longer means so much to you.
KEY WORDS(Pick a quote which captures your feelings right now. Think especially
of the day before the dream) :
- "there is no real feelings there"
- "I just do not enjoy it at all"
- "he doesn't really love me"
- "a lack of real meaning to the things I am doing"
PLANTS : Plants are associated with growth be it good or bad. In a
positive sense we encourage people to adopt new ideas and ways of behaving.
But in a negative sense we often pick up bad new habits. The growth of such
new ways of behaving is linked to plants. In another sense plants can symbolise
illness which is growing within us.
KEY WORDS and PHRASES :
- "teaching"
- "encourage"
- "personal growth"
- "bad new habit"
- "illness growing within you"
GARDENS : Gardens link to ideas , habits, relationships that are growing
on us and becoming deeply meaningful. So the state of the garden is important.
An green garden suggests you are growing and interested in life at present.
A sparse garden with little growth suggests that close relationships mean
nothing much to you, or that you have become disinterested in life right now.
Try and relate the dream to new feelings coming out from your mind. So if
you were spiritually emnlightened the night before and felt a surge of energy
and interest it will relate to that.
KEY WORDS(Pick a quote which captures your feelings right now. Think especially
of the day before the dream) :
- "plant some ideas"
- "growing as a person"
- "learning so much"
- "new bad habits"
- "developing in new ways"
- "flourishing"

DREAM STUDIES : Real dreams that feature farms, gardens and plants
---------------------
THE DREAM - I am on a farm and I appear to be with several people from
a cafe that I used to go in.
THE REALITY The dreamer had been thinking about the cafe in the dream the
previous day. He had realised he liked the people within it. He got on well
with them all. This was something that he decided should be encouraged.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "I realise now how important the people are in the cafe to me. I should
try to encourage it and appreciate the friendships I have there"
THE INTERPRETATION Farms are symbols of growth. In this case they refer to
the dreamers own realization that the people in this cafe were a pleasant
and enjoyable part of his life. The dream was saying then that he should make
systematic attempts to encourage this as much as possible. It was significant
that this dream prompted him to go into the cafe the next day.
Symbolic
Meanings
FARM : "relationships and behavior that we ought to encourage "
---------------------------
DREAM TIP : Dreams featuring growth tend to link to ways in which we
are growing. That can mean lots of things in practice. It may mean that you
are learning lots of new ideas. It may mean that a relationship is growing
on you and becoming more important. It may mean that you are learning some
new bad habits. Simply spot how the theme of growth or lack of growth features
in your current thoughts.
---------------------------
THE DREAM I am at some kind of desert settlement. The buildings seem
to be run down or ruined. It is some shared community and people seem to be
cooperating.
THE REALITY The dreamer had generally had a bad relationship with her neighbour.
But recently she had had a good talk with her. But the previous day she saw
her again and this time they ignored each other again.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "I thought I had got on better relations with my neighbour but we started
ignoring each other again"
THE INTERPRETATION Dreams will concentrate on changes in your thoughts and
often link specifically to the previous day. Here we have a strong and easily
understood symbol. Deserts symbolise a lack of meaning and importance to something.
So simply ask yourself - what lacks meaning right now? In this case the dreamer
came back with a clear answer. The day before she had seen her neighbour and
they totally ignored each other. The preious day they had chatted for a short
while. But now the relationship had reverted back to what it was before. So
this dream is about assessing the state of this relationship. Other symbols
would also seem to support this analysis. The community is a symbol here of
the local neighbourhood.
Symbolic Meanings
COMMUNITY : "your local community and people around you - in this case the
dreamers neighbour"
DESERT : "lack of real meaning to a relationship - not really a relationship
with any meaning"
PEOPLE : "some thoughts about somebody's behavior"
RUIN : "a idea or way of thinking that has been overturned - in this case
recent improvements in the dreamers relationship with his neighbour"
---------------------------
DREAM TIP : Dreams capture new thought processes which are developing
in your mind. Pinpoint these new feelings. Indeed sit down and write down
some quotes which capture everything you were thinking of on the day before
the dream. Those new ideas are the subject of dreams. Thats because the dreammind
deals with concepts and conclusions in your thinking. So write down these
thoughts. They may deal with any aspect of your waking life. If you are having
health problesm then they may deal with such issues.
---------------------------
THE DREAM - I've had several dreams I can't seem to make heads or tails
out of over the last few nights... the first night, I dream that my daughter
is insistently causing me grief: she's overspending, neglecting her husband
and child, etc. (she does this stuff in real life too!). She is at my house
during the dream and I'm just slapping the **** out of her, to the point her
hair is covering her face. She's sitting down, allowing me to slap her and
not saying anything. Her husband comes into the room and states we have to
get out of the house, because the military is set up to conduct maneuvers
just outside my back door. I grab my grandson and head outside with my son
in law; true enough the military is dumping large boulders by the creek that
runs along my property. On the other side of the backyard, there is a chopper
with rotors turning...
The house in this dream is not my house; it appears to be a converted barn.
The interior is rustic: there is no floor and there are wooden beams all over
the place. There is only basic furniture and no decorations. In the following
dream, the house is an old 1940's clapboard type house; very messy. Again
not my 'waking' house, but it feels indubitably mine... the dream last night
involved a break in. the intruder had smashed a fist sized hole in my bedroom
window, unlatched it and crawled in. I was returning home and noticed the
broken window. I knew I should not walk in the house and immediately resolved
to call 911, but couldn't use my work cell phone; my other cell phone was
laying on my dresser, partially buried under a bunch of stuff. I picked up
the cellphone and noticed the intruder had used that phone...
My neighbor is on my back lawn. She makes no mention of the break in, although
I'm in a state of panic. Conversing with her calms me down, and we gaze out
across the lawn. The lawn is beautifully tended, lush, green and sloping to
a body of water (a creek or pond, I'm not sure). there are children playing
on the lower part of the slope. I walk all the way to the water with this
neighbor; we both have our purses on our right arms. The children do not seem
to notice us.
THE REALITY The dreamers son had temporarily moved back home. He had lived
on his own for the previous 4 years and was used to doing things in his own
way. The dreamer was used to having things her own way - she had raised him
to be his own person and did not care for some of his ways. She adopted the
perspective that he was her tenant - drawing up a lease giving him cabinets
for his food storage.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "My son is coming back to live with me. I do not really like the idea
as I have become attached to my own independence. I have laid down rules to
make sure that he respects my home and doesn't start disrupting things too
much "
THE INTERPRETATION Parts of this dream were easier to interpret than others.
The first part clearly features the dreamers daughter and the later parts
are probably more clearly about the dreamers son. The first part probably
simply reveals her frustration with her children's actions and out of control
behavior. The out of control behavior of her daughter is being used merely
as a symbol for how things would not be allowed to get out of control with
her son. Indeed they all have to get out of the house because of the military
maneuver's about to start. That is symbolic of how things will not get out
of hand at home because strict rules will be laid down just like in the military.
House in dreams symbolise the type of approach you have to adopt in some situation.
The dreamer clearly recognised this as her home though it clearly was not.
The shack is very much a symbol of having to make do - life is tough and things
are not perfect. That was a clear parallel to her situation with her son.
The bedroom in dreams symbolises your own very private and personal space.
But in this case an intruder has invaded it. That symbolises the way in which
the dreamers own space has been invaded and how this has upset her. Her son
has intruded on her way of doing things.
The countryside is symbolic of how you would ideally like things to be(as
opposed to cities which symbolise a need to compromise and think of others).
So this represents how the dreamer had laid down rules.
The mobile phone is a symbol of constant communication. But in this dream
the dreamer could not find hers. That shows how she was not always able to
get through to her son. He was not always listening.
Neighbours often symbolise something which is close at hand. So maybe the
peaceful neighbours home reflects the belief that eventually things will come
back to normal. Her son will move on and she will regain her independence.
Symbolic
Meanings
911 : "responding to an emergency - the dreamer has to allow her son back
home because of an urgent situation"
BACK DOOR : "secretive fears"
BEAUTIFUL : "an idea of perfection / aiming for perfection"
BED : "your very private and inner self - something that affects you personally"
CELL PHONE : "a constant need to understand how someone thinks"
INTRUDER : "the dreamer feels intruded upon - she is used to living alone"
MILITARY : "the need for discipline - the dreamer is imposing rules on her
sons behavior"
-------------------------
DREAM TIP :The best way to truly understand a dream is to wait until
something big happens in your life. If you cannot stop thinking about something
all day then you will surely dream about it. Simply write down a quote that
sums up your feelings on this issue then look for evidence in the symbols
that plays out such feelings.
-------------------------
THE DREAM - I had a beautiful dream. I was looking through the window,
from my bedroom in my former house. It was night, and I saw a garden outside.
Well, it was only the shadows of bushes and trees since it was dark outside,
but they were covered with glimmering red flowers that shone beautifully through
the garden. I found out I was able to make more flowers shine at my will,
these ones were green light green flowers and I was having fun making them
"turn on and off" and seeing how beautiful the garden was.
THE REALITY The night before dreamer had to comfort her best friend because
his girlfriend broke up again. The dreamer was trying to cheer up the friend
but also be sincere about his girlfriend who was playing around with him.
It was a tough but fair approach. She was trying to tell her friend that his
girlfriend needed to be sorted out. If they were to get back together again
she would have to be made to change her ways and stop playing with his feelings.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "My best friend has broken up with his girlfriend again. I tried to
comfort him but also tried to help him learn and grow from the experience".
THE INTERPRETATION This dream seems to relate to thoughts about how the dreamer
had had to console her friend about a relationship breakup. Gardens are often
symbols of romance and so that definitely relates to this dream. The main
connection was the way the dreamer was employing a strategy - it involved
being tough yet also was a way of consoling the friend. In the dream that
mimics the way flowers shine off and on.
Shining and glimmering often links to looking on the bright side and being
optimistic. That is a direct link to the way the dreamer was trying to make
the friend feel optimistic.
Quite often emotions are complex. In this case the dreamer had a complex strategy
for helping her friend. It was tough but also caring. If a person has a dual
approach then it maybe portrayed in a slightly odd way. The dream maybe even
refers to the on and off nature of the friends relationship.
Symbolic Meanings
BED : "a personal symbol - the dreamer is addressing her friends personal
habits and tendencies"
DARK : "in the dark about the future"
GARDEN : "helping her friend grow from the experience"
NIGHT : "not seeing your current situation clearly"
------------------------
DREAM TIP :The link between dreams and the day before is very strong.
That is because the way that the brain is built. We store all our thoughts
during the day in short term memory and then at night we transfer and integrate
those new feelings into our long term memory banks. We formulate new thought
processes such as "I need to work harder to show my boyfriend how much I care".
Then finally we clear short term memory banks ready to start the whole process
again the next day. Dreams thus represent the changes in our thoughts and
feelings.
------------------------
THE DREAM - The dream was about a family who ran a farm. The farmhouse
was on a major slope. There was a debate about what plants were to be used
and the methods on the farm.
THE REALITY The dreamer was a teacher. She was trying to nurture new ways
of thinking. She was trying more than anything to explain the techniques that
she was using.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "I keep trying to encourage my students to study in a particular way.
I am not quite sure how to go about this. Things are not really working out.
I will have to have a good think on this"
THE INTERPRETATION The dreamers wish to encourage certain ways of thinking
was symbolised by the farm. Farms are places where we encourage and nurture
certain thoughts. The debate was a debate about just how certain types of
thoughts should be encouraged and nurtured. The dreamer was unsure about her
exact direction in trying to achieve this.
Symbolic Meanings
FAMILY : "the dreamers own judgment"
FARM : "trying to encourage and nurture her students"
PLANT : "wondering what exact techniques to use"
----------------------------
DREAM TIP :Dreams use symbolic associations. Often a dream symbol will
weirdly remind you of waking life. It maybe that a character in your dream
reminds you of how someone acted the previous day. Do not dismiss such connections
as they may be helpful clues.
----------------------------
THE DREAM Somewhere very dark is a tree bare of leaves. I sit near
the top of the tree. As I look about the tree shapes start to appear on every
main branch connected directly to the trunk. They are all the same. They are
black stags with antlers of ten points. I turn to the branch opposite me which
holds the nearest black stag. As I gaze in fear the black stag opens it eyes
which are also black or rather devoid of colour. Slowly turning and stretching
its neck the black stag begins to nuzzle my hand like a much loved pet.
THE REALITY The dream was linked to the dreamers desire to fight his own ego
states. He had become celibate in order to control and transform his own sexual
energy in a Gnostic way. He had mentioned this to a woman who was chasing
him at the time. However, this woman was also very much an intellectual rival.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "I keep trying to fight my own ego states. I am trying to become celibate
in order to transform my sexual energy into creative energy. A woman has been
chasing me recently and so its been a real challenge to stay clear of sex."
THE INTERPRETATION Well dreams like this show the immense difficulty of dream
interpretation. If dreams symbolise your thoughts then how could the mind
symbolically represent such a dream. The dreamer connected the issues with
this subject. There are several good links. The antlers are a symbol both
of sexual desire and also rivalry so that neatly links with two issue the
dreamer had to control in relation to his own ego.
The tree can often symbolise many things. But it can also deal with deeply
rooted issues. Here it may represent the dreamers own growth or body . The
bare leaves may symbolise the stripping away of his own ego.
Its a difficult dream to interpret because it deals with such conceptual issues.
But do not expect the decoding of dreams to be easy. This dream demonstrates
it is often difficult.
Also note that everything is connected in the tree. The branches are very
much linked. That shows how the dream is making connections between one part
of his life and putting ideas into practice.
Symbolic Meanings
ANTLER : "the dreamers own sexual desire"
NUZZLE : "the temptation to sex"
TREE : "sexual tension - probably the tree stands for a phallic symbol"
-----------------------
DREAM TIP : When you wake up try to make a note of thoughts that flood
into your mind. Dreams link to things that you are thinking about so these
thoughts may be helpful clues as to the meaning of your dreams.
-----------------------
THE DREAM This dream took place on the road I live on, which is semi-farm
territory. There is some nice houses amongst fields and pastures. I was walking
down the road on a warm night. I stopped at a gate that lead to a cattle pasture.
I always felt a creepy feeling when walking past there. In this dream, a demon
appeared-it was partially invisible it had a shape a little like the aliens
on the movie Signs I could see it's basic outline. It walked up to me when
I came to the gate and told me it's name was Galangal(is also a name of some
kind of plant). Then I woke. It wasn't threatening, but it thought I needed
to know it's name, and was a little freaked. (Some estranged family members
live down that path in the dream. One is actually insane.)
THE REALITY The dreamer has always tried to teach her sons to grow up to hold
the values that she holds. However, recently she has started to worry that
they are getting in with the wrong crowd.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "My young sons are picking up some bad habits. I think they are coming
under some bad influence"
THE INTERPRETATION The best way to understand this dream is to know what the
demon is. Demons in dreams are usually a good starting point. They are rather
unseen and usually represent some fear that is lurking in the back of our
minds. One fear the dreamer mentioned was about her sons - she feared they
were getting in with the wrong crowd.
The dream features a farm. Often farms can link with our own moral side. Plants
take a long time to grow. Plants can link to friendships and family relationships
that have real meaning. They link to strong moral standards perhaps that we
really believe in. Farms are public areas so can maybe link to other people.
They are not plants merely for our own benefit. So we are trying to grow something
within others perhaps. In this case it would link nicely with the issue already
mentioned. The dream has always tried to bring up her sons to have correct
morals.
The area in the dream links to a particular side of the dreamers family. That
side is estranged. The dream is not about them in any way. Its using them
as a symbol. The dreamer fears that her sons will become estranged in the
same way. That they will take this particular road.
Symbolic Meanings
ALIEN : "ways of behavior that are alien to you - her sons are picking up
bad habits from some alien source"
DEMON : "almost possessed by some fear"
PLANT : "new growth - new ideas and ways of behavior are being encouraged
in a systematic way"
---------------------------
DREAM TIP : If you work with people a lot you may get lots of dreams
linked to your job. Dreams can deal with your attempts to improve your understanding
of people around you. So if you are finding someone difficult to read as a
person then it may result in a dream.
----------------------------
THE DREAM In the beginning of the dream I was sitting at the bar in
a restaurant. The restaurant was in Colorado. I looked out the window and
I saw two bridges going over the street. The waitress said "That's Colorado
Highway 28. It's a new highway. Nobody ever drives on it." I was wearing roller
blades and I skated onto the new highway. There was no traffic. It was a freeway,
but it didn't have shoulders and the lanes were narrow. Also, the highway
signs were blue instead of green. One sign on the side of the road said "Speed
Limit 55", so I skated at 55 miles per hour on the roller blades.
I can remember in detail what was on the signs. The first sign said "Exit
188, Hwy. 95, Sheridan Blvd.". On the next set of overhead signs there were
two signs. The one on the right said "Exit 189, 81st Ave." The sign on the
left said "Hwy. 28 North". Under the number 28, instead of the name of a city,
it said "Abandoned Restaurant Parking Lot".
I wasn't in a car, but somehow I had a car stereo system next to me. I tuned
the radio to 105.7 FM and got static. I then tuned it to 105.9 FM and I could
hear some music and a lot of static. I then pressed another button and the
display had "105.9 FM Digital". The voice said "Here's Katrina and the Waves",
and they played "Walking on Sunshine". I listened to Walking on Sunshine through
the remainder of the dream. I skated into the abandoned parking lot and turned
around. In the dream I remember feeling cold. I saw a bank sign in the distance
that had time, date, and temperature. The date was 3:00PM Dec. 13 and the
temperature was 60 degrees. Also, the sky was cloudless and the sun was close
to going down. I skated past another sign that read "Rest Area". It was right
next to a sewage treatment plant.
When I skated to the other end of the highway the sign said "Exit 187, 76th
Place, All Traffic Must Exit" The exit ended in somebody's driveway. I didn't
exit and I skated into a construction area. I saw all the teachers that I
didn't like from elementary school building the highway. The principal was
the one behind the transit scope. I walked up to him and he had a big smile
on his face. He told me that when they were done building the highway, it
was going to end in a farmer's wheat field 187 miles to the southeast. He
was real proud of his highway but not for long. I decided to tell him that
his road wasn't quite up to standard.
I told him that he was building it wrong. First I explained to him that the
driving lanes were supposed to be 3.6m wide and his were only 3.5m wide. Then
I told him that it needs to have a shoulder on the right side that's 3m wide
and a shoulder on the left side that's 1.2m wide. Then I said that the median
wasn't wide enough and the road signs were supposed to be green instead of
blue. I wasn't done with him. I said the speed limit should be 65 mph, not
55 mph.
The other teachers started to whine and cry so they gave up and went home.
The principal said "Well, fine, there's a highway in Texas that has purple
signs, how come we can't have blue signs?" I replied with "Pointing to another
wrong doesn't excuse yours". Then he started pouting and kicking his toolbox
around. The dream ended here.
THE REALITY When the dreamer woke he associated the dream with his father.
It reminds him of his father's failed business. The dreamer was self employed
himself and thought he gave his dad good advice but he didn't listen to anybody.
Instead, he got upset and said "If I can't do this by myself it's just not
going to get done. From now on the dreamer decided to never try to help out
in such a way again. He had tried to encourage his father to think in new
ways. This had totally failed. His father wanted to do things in his own way.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "I have now decided that I will never help anyone in the way that I
tried to help my father with his business. I do not think he ever tuned in
to what I was saying. He just went ahead and did what he was going to do"
THE INTERPRETATION If you wake up and think of an issue then its likely that
the issue maybe connected. This maybe the case.
One good link here is the sewage treatment plant. That would symbolise how
the dreamer is dealing with the bad feelings associated with his fathers failed
business. Factories of any kind tend to link to how feelings and thoughts
are constructed. So here the dreamer is looking at how bad feelings are created
within the mind. In this case he realises that he was trying to help his father
when he should have just allowed him to get along with things.
Farms are symbolic of the ways in which we try to encourage others to think
in certain ways. We are trying to help certain ideas take root in others.
Here all the roads are well constructed except the one towards the farms.
That is consistent with the new thoughts in the dreamers mind. He does not
want to go in the direction of helping people. Thats why the road is well
constructed except for the area heading towards the farmer.
A great emphasis is placed on radio signals. These are symbolic of people
listening to the outside world. There is a difference between digital and
FM signals here though.
Perhaps that shows that there is a difference in generations. The digital
signal represents modern ways and the FM signal old ways. Perhaps then the
issue links to generational differences in that the father is from a different
generation and maybe has different ideas and expectations. Younger people
are maybe more likely to listen to advice and to participate in an "information
culture".
The dream also links to a lot of details(it dwells on the width of gauges)
and maybe has precise info about what the son knew - precise knowledge of
running a real business. That is what happened in real life as the dreamer
advised his father to use the Internet for his business.
In the dream the dreamer is on rollerblades. This is an intensely personal
way of traveling. It perhaps shows that the dreamer is heading in a direction
and thinking in ways that are intensely personal.
The connections with real life are few in this dream. Its a difficult dream
to analyze. But there are some links to reality here. The link with the farms
is a strong one. The symbols certainly seem consistent with this issue that
was dominating the dreamers mind the night before. It is just missing one
or two vital direct links. But it certain could be seen as linked to this
issue.
Symbolic Meanings
BRIDGE : "emotional junction - the dreamer realises it was pointless trying
to help his father as he never really wanted to listen to advice"
FARMER : "people who inspire us and encourage us in some ability or behavior
- the dreamers attempts to inspire and encourage his father"
PARKING LOT : "life at a standstill in some way"
RADIO WAVES : "tuning in too how people see the world - the dreamers
father sees the world in a totally different way"
RESTAURANT : "trying to get someone interested in your ideas"
SEWAGE : "the possibility that unwanted emotions spill out in an out of control
way"
TRAFFIC : "personality clashes and conflicts with other people - the dreamers
clashes with his fathers personality which is heading in the other direction"
---------------------------------------
DREAM TIP : Many dreams are often highly emotional in their nature.
Try to spot those same emotions in real life. What happened the day before
where you felt similar emotions. Did you wake up in a mood(either good or
bad)? In many cases the dream is merely highlighting these emotions.
