The Nabataeans Arab tribes emigrated from the Arabian
Peninsula at the end of the sixth century BC and occupied the land of Edom in
Southern Jordan. The first
concrete mention of the Nabataeans as having been established in Petra was
312 BC, when they repulsed the double attack of Antigonos, a general of
Alexander the Great. By the mid
third century BC, they spread into the Hawran and the Negeb. The classical name Petra, and the early name Sela both mean the same thing, " Rock "; and surely no city was ever more aptly named. But " Rock " only conveys half the picture of the city: the wild, fantastic shapes of the hills, the great chasms which cleave them, the brilliant coloring--all these must be seen to be believed. Petra is unique alike in its antiquities, its natural setting, and its approach. |
هاجر قبائل العرب الأنباط من شبه الجزيرة
العربية في نهاية القرن السادس قبل الميلاد واحتلوا جنوب الأردن. استقر الأنباط
في البتراء في عام 312 قبل الميلاد عندما صدوا هجمات الجنرال انتيجونس الذي أرسل
من قبل الاسكندر ثم انتشروا في حوران والنجيب بحلول منتصف القرن الثالث قبل
الميلاد.
كلمة البتراء تعني الصخر وهي الاسم التقليدي للمدينة أما الاسم القديم
"سيلا" فله أيضا نفس المعنى. وهو اسم على مسمى حيث أن المدينة منحوته
في الصخر. ولابد من رؤية تلالها البديعة وألوانها الزاهية لمعرفة سر جمالها
الفريد! |
