From
Pam:
As I was so short-winded in my first
rendition of my bio (Brooke DID say short and sweet), I am submitting more
Pam trivia. Here goes...
I spent 4 years at W&M
getting a BA in Int'l Relations (just really wanted to spend my Junior
year abroad-in Grenoble, France riding a little mobilette with a neon blue
helmet). I worked for a import/export firm in Norfolk then moved to the
big city of D.C. to work for a consulting firm. When I worked on a
contract in Montreal, I fell in love with the city. I had to leave
to move back in with my mom, working at Williamsburg Community Hospital
and doing prerequisites for med school as I thought I'd realized
"what I'd do with my life". So, funnily enough I was able to
return to Montreal in 1992 to go to McGill
med school. Stayed there to do a residency in Family Practice. Following
that, I moved to Burlington, VT (just can't
be too far from that city can I?).
It took
awhile to get a job and meet some folks as I knew nary a soul when I moved
there, but it all worked out really well and here I am 5 years later!
Since then I've accumulated a house, a husband, and now a garden which I
am struggling to tame and beautify (moles can make some gargantuan mud
houses I've learned). It's kind of nice, getting your hands dirty! I
absolutely love Vermont although yes, the
winters can be long and cold. We ski (downhill, cross country, Nordic and
skate, back country - I never knew there were so many types of skis!) and
snowshoe and enjoy snowy days inside snuggling. There's
also a 5th season here called mud season that almost saw the demise of my
little Honda Civic!
Summers are beautiful and we love to
road cycle and hike the Green Mountains (VT), Adirondacks (NY), and White
Mountains (NH). My husband Steve (newly
married 11/2/02) is a great companion on these adventures and
coached the Nordic ski team at the high school where he teaches
Physics. My practice is pretty busy - general practice in a large
group of 10 docs (which is great for the call schedule) where we cover our
own hospital admits and do nursing home and ambulatory care. I thoroughly
enjoy my partners and patients even if the bureaucracy of medicine can be
laborious. I'm pretty content these days. Perhaps kids will get thrown in
there to increase the chaos coefficient, but time will tell!
Memories of HRA...
* Holding our legs up in Latin class to imitate Fergie who
unfortunately was casted.
* Eating lunch in the parking lot.
* A cranking senior class field hockey team.
* Friends whom I still consider my best.
* Awkward 8th grade dances.
* August field hockey practice when I realized I was taller than
anyone else which explains the above memory.
* Our eclectic, passionate teachers.
* Noc's car getting toilet papered (for some reason that photo is
stuck in my mind).
It's been a treat to see what people have been up to. I'm sorry I won't be
at the reunion, but look forward to photos and news from the events!
