From
Frazer:
After four years in Charlottesville with
many of our classmates including Susan Harris Gill and Alice Mirguet Winn,
I found myself unable to leave. So I stayed for law school where I met my husband
Joe Fiveash, a Norfolk native and graduate of our rival Norfolk
Academy. We spent a few years doing the big city thing in Washington
and working for large corporate firms (highly overrated). In 1993,
we moved to Norfolk after my father passed away.
Our Norfolk years were wonderful.
Both of our boys, Gardner (8) and Harrison (6),
were born there and I loved being so close to both our families and old
friends, as well as summer weekends in Mathews and Nags Head. I
worked for a while for a very small firm (which I much preferred to a
large one) but ultimately was a stay-at-home mom (very happily). Joe
left law to work for Landmark Communications when Gardner was born, and in
2000 they offered him spot at weather.com (the Weather Channel) in Atlanta.
So here we are. And it's really a
very nice place aside from being so far from home. We are thrilled
with our children's school and have found a church (this is the Bible
belt!!) that's a good fit. Life is full of baseball games and soccer
games and spend-the-nights and too much Game Cube. I revived my
passion for tennis and have enjoyed playing on a tennis team. For
the past three summers I've made 6-week treks up with the boys for
extended visits, with Joe coming up on weekends. Tons of fun, just
wearing out our welcome (easily done) and moving on. However, I went
back to work in February so my wings are clipped. I'll just be up
for a week this year, ending with the reunion.
We are starting a renovation on our
house this Friday and have moved into a tiny townhouse for 7-8 months.
This has kept me quite busy, trying to figure out which stuff to take with
us, which to long-term storage, and which to a friend's basement, plus all
the renovation decisions about faucets, blah blah blah. You know, we
just don't need all that stuff. All we really need we took with us.
Simple is better.
Memories:
* Field hockey games, and bus rides to and from. And I
remember my father coming as often as he could (usually sitting near Ann
Wall's mom) and getting so caught up in the excitement that he would yell
"Punch it, baby, punch it!" because he couldn't recall the name
of our teammate who was going for the ball, much less the fact that it was
called a "drive" or a "pass".
* Winning a jeep in a
raffle in 7th grade - my 15 minutes of fame.
* Dancing all night at
Sharon Knight's slumber party to Fleetwood Mac.
* Dying with laughter with
Katherine at her hilarious Russell escapades.
* Riding around with
Elizabeth, Page, and Elaine before basketball and football games.
* And lots of kindness...
