From
Kathy:
After
graduating from HRA I went to Wheaton College outside
of Chicago, IL and earned a bachelors in biology with a minor in secondary
education. I also met my future husband, Bob Rexroad,
there.
After college I returned to
Newport News and lived at home for a year while I taught at Hampton
Christian High School. I married Bob a year later in June of 1988 (in
fact, as I write this it is our 15th anniversary). Together we moved to
his hometown of Rockford, IL, where we both taught at the same private
school ( he had been teaching there for 5 years.) Then he decided to
pursue his dream of being an airline pilot, so this took us to Vero Beach,
FL for 4 years, where he attended Flight Safety flight school and also
instructed.
While we were there I continued to
teach, including 2 years at a private school similar to HRA, St. Edward's.
In 1993 Bob was hired by Atlantic Coast Airlines (ie, United Express) to
fly out of there hub at Dulles Airport, so we moved to northern Virginia,
where we have been living ever since. For the first couple of years here I
attended George Washington University to work on a masters in math
education (which unfortunately remains unfinished). Our first child, Sarah,
arrived in July 1994. Following her every 2 years or so have been 4
boys (Sam, Nicholas, Nathaniel, and Caleb, now 6 months). We just
recently moved to a house which we built in Leesburg. Bob has been flying
for United Airlines for the last 5 years while I have focused on keeping
track of all of my kids' activities. We have both been very involved with
our church in Ashburn, VA and the school my kids attend, volunteering our
time on a regular basis. I really look forward to seeing everyone at the
reunion.
Some memories from HRA include:
* Listening to war stories in Col. Short's class
* The "senior lounge" by the library where we were
constantly reminded by Mrs. Spoor to be quiet
* Going out to lunch
* Debates in Mr. Gillespie's class
* Hearing about the midnight sneak-outs to see the Rocky Horror
Picture Show ( I never managed to get out)
* Breaking my leg sophomore year and relying on everyone's help
* Some cold and rainy track meets
