The grave at Woodend with wooden headstone - raised carved names - all their 8 children who died in 2 diphtheria epidemics
"The Argus" newspaper of 19 Apr 1877 [ 6g] has this : John Muntz, Springfield teacher, loses seven Springfield pupils from diphtheria [found Dec 2007]

John Muntz was a farmer and head school teacher at North Woodend Public school c 1865-8 ? Calder Highway.
(he is just to Right of door at right)

Mary Harriet nee Malone and John Munce / Muntz.

Mary was also a sewing teacher at the same school for some time. They lived at the school in accommodation provided by the State.
I have several letters from John to the State School government in which he asked for a fence to be built to keep the cattle from making the school yard muddy and in another letter he asked for a fireplace in their quarters as" his wife was used to one".

Eva Francis Bingham (nee Muntz) Furze c 1938 centre with her eldest daughter Jane Harriet Elizabeth Furze trained nurse at the Mildura Base Hospital (later to wed widower Mr J.G.Wilkinson in 1945?) and Harwood Godfrey Furze sporting goods and toys shop proprietor in Deakin Ave. Mildura before a Changi prison WWII died aged 45. at back door of her Palm Ave house in Mildurea - holding me daughter of her last child "Girlie".
