Memories of School Days..............
What I remember about Mr. Hesse was his war stories. I recall one about
him carrying secret information through enemy territory. I always thought
that sounded so exciting. I also remember his attempts at meditation. We
would think of a beach with warm water rolling over us and everytime a wave
hit us it would make us feel more relaxed, etc...
Remember doing Elinore Rigby or the Yes song Going for the One? What
did we do with the Going for the One song? Didn't we use it in some kind
of production?
The 60 minutes event actually happened in 8th grade. I know because
I moved to Vermont after 7th grade and missed being on TV! I'm sure if I
had my 15 minutes of fame they would have discovered that I was the World's
Greatest Athlete! Where are you Mark and what are you doing? Where is Donny
Lafronz? Remember his favorite saying,"what a rip!"
Marisa, it warms my heart to be remembered for my vomit. I can't get
over what some of you remember! I do recall the Moby Dick rendition. How
could anyone forget?!
Do you remember Mr. Beresky and his color coded little tests that we
had to progress through? Or our third grade teacher (whose name I can't
recall)that had long dark hair and great big wide eyes? Those foolish multiplication
records? (They'd be in CD format now)
How about Bobby Commentucci and all the T.K + C.P that he wrote all
over the school buildings in 6th grade. Remember Billy Yoe and his cigarettes?
Remember Mrs. Thurnall in first grade? I think she was the wicked witch
of the East. Remember how shy Melissa Schneider was?
-Cliff Passino
I remember watching in amazement as Cliff, surely the world's undiscovered
greatestathlete, with his long hair flying behind him, rounded the field
for thefinal lap of what we called a MARATHON (I think it was 4 times around
thefield!) ?
Remember reading aloud in Mrs. Magnolia's 2nd grade class, or Mrs.Hildebrandt's
hugs? (fondest Mrs. H' class memory: Jeremy from Britain and his imaginary
dragon outside the window which he was determined to kill withhis "arrow"
one day, caught wandering across the room aiming his pencil likea javelin)
Remember Mr. Moll jangling his keys and/or change in his pockets as
he pacedaround the room while trying to teach us about social issues, or
the pictureof him bending over to pet the cat?
Anyone else remember writing The Raven or The Bill Of Rights until BOTHhands
were sore?
Mr. Kennedy's WALL of books STILL intimidates me... but Martha plowed
thruthem like a wildfire in California! Those books are still my favorites...forget
Oprah's list...
I'll never forget Scott O'Connell telling Morley Safer that he'd tellsomeone
to "take a long walk off a short peer" ( I forget the circumstances, but
I'm sure it was relevant - funny how selective our memories can be! )which
was absolutely the funniest, wittiest, sharpest thing a 6th-gradercould
say on 60 minutes... who came to interview us for raising many pennies
for UNICEF?
Remember when UNICEF meant something?
Mr. Goba was the greatest basketball player, and Mr. Walker the greatestsoftball
player. Ms. Shamona was the first, and ultimate, "Judge Judy"
when it came to giving out points - Mr. D' and Miss Bradley were idols
ofphysical fitness for a few of our formative years.
Remember the 8th grade PROM? I remember my first dance...
Remember Coffee Houses in the BIG gym?
Remember the woods, the reservoir, the tressel and tracks - places where
we could feel like big kids?
-Mark Fischer
Some other memories, Rumbles on the playground during lunch recess,
soccergames between the 5th grad windows and the relocatables and hitting
the window with the ball and having Mr. McClosky yelling at us to go play
somewhere else, or how about writing commercials over and over in his class
for saying them outloud, Uh oh Spaghetteo's.... Mrs Peck saying I'mExtremely
sorry, Peter got a kick out of that more than anyoneelse..Presidents Physical
fitness tests (we hated them, esp usunderachievers)...Wrestling time in
P.E. and being in the heavy weightdivision with Ross "the tank"
Tenhove...oh what fun...:)
Anyone remember the substitute teacher Mr. Harrington, we DROVE him
to thefunny farm, he had a nervous breakdown one day and I think we got
the thirddegree the next day, think again it was in Mr. Hesse's class...Oh
we werebad kids but we got punished too... :)
I too remember the moby dick rendition....I remember winger fights in
6thgrade, Mr. Moll and how he sneezed and took care of the remains....kept
hishair slick that is for sure....and staying after school and writing cuz
justhad to be a clown...winning class blusher with Jody Wasson, I still
do blusha lot, just can't help it...
-Joe Grant
I remember Jeremy and the dragon outside the window too.
-Amy Lewis
Memories-- does anyone remember Rick Q's rendition of--was it MOBY DICK?--in
ifth grade reading?-- when you wriggled around on the floor and Alex Saban'harpooned'
you? That was the most melodramatic book report I've ever seen, even to
date!
Or does anyone remember when Lisa Jarem tipped back in her chair in
secondgrade and knocked her tooth out? Or when Cliff threw up in second
grade? Iremember that because I threw up the month after, right into the
center wherethe four desks came together, and the fact that Cliff had already
done it mademe feel less horrible.
Or playing baseball in Hildebrandt's reading class? Or when Mrs. Magner
played"Youve got a Friend " on the last day of second grade and
all the girls cried?
Or when Lana Francisco found my escaped hamster under the sink in Mr
Hesse'sclassroom? Or coffeehouse, when Tammi and Tom first hooked up (is
that who itwas? Or Sandy and somebody?) and it was all anyone talked about?
-Marissa Januzzi
There was one of Kennedy's films where I was a patient having brain
surgery. Whoever the Dr. was (could it be Melissa Schneider???) took "slime"
(that goopy green stuff) out of my head.
-Cristina Brueck
Wasn't it Bubbit and the blob and it ate bobby c or billy yeo or was
itcheeks??? I forget but didn't some of those d rated movies make it to
alocal PBS station and air on a saturday morning...I remember making the
starwars movie in stop action... didn't the blob eat bobby c, or was it
