these are my notes on how GIMP works. mainly for my use so when i go to someones house who doesn not have a gimp manual i can figure out how to do what i need to do. some for work its also easier to search these note then to look up something in the gimp manual. typeing partial file names 1) got to the box where you type in file name 2) type in partial file name 3) hit TAB 4) in menu it will list files that begin with that file name ---------------------------------------------------------------------- moving layers around - moving layers up and down - moving layers down YES YES YES - you can move layers from one place to another use the 2 arrows at the bottom of the layers menu 1) highlite the layer in blue that you want to move 2) then use the up or down arrow to move the layer up or down ---------------------------------------------------------------------- .xcf is the DEFAULT gimp file format .xcf in gimp you can save anything in xcf .xcf default file format for gimp to split screen mode and have 2 views of an image 1) a full size image of what it look like so you can see how the changes you make in the 2nd window affect it. 2) a 2nd window where you can zoom in an make changes to enter split screen mode a) right mouse click b) select VIEW c) select NEW VIEW - - makes the image get smaller on your screen (so you can see more of it) ie: your moving away from it = - zooms into image cntl/a - selects the entire image. that way you dont have to grab it with a box select cntl/n - creates a new blank image (none of the fucking with mouse shit) cntl/w - writes the image cntl/q - quits cntl/s - saves the image cntl/d - duplicates the image on a 2nd screen so you can play with it with out hosing up the orginal image cntl/I - inverts the selection. when selecting stuff with the square box, circle, or other ways if you hit CNTL/I it uses everything on the screen execpt what you selected. quite usefull sometimes. grabs everything but what you selected. grabs everything execpt what you selected. ANCHOR BUTTON - this button stops the fucking marching ants when your in layers - it works like the cntl/shift/A - after you create text or other stuff in a layer use it to anchor down the text. cntl/shift/A - (the ANCHOR button also does this for layers) after you have selected something and are done working on it CNTL/SHIFT/A will turn of the marching ants so you can work on something else for example after you select some text you can force the marching ants to stop and go on and do something else. i lied. it DOESNT WORK WITH TEST. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS EVER SINCE I STARTED READING THE BOOK. ITS THE COMMAND TO TELL IT TO TURN OFF WHAT YOU JUST DID cntl/shift/L - floats a section so you can edit it with out effecting the image. to unfloat it and make it part of the image either a) anchor it in the LAWYERS BOX 1) right mouse select LAYERS select ANCHOR to get the size of any window either go or to display the x/y coordinaates of where the curser is (you have to click on the cursor to get x and y coordinates) SHIFT/cntl/I or RIGHT CLICK select VIEW select WINDOW INFO to get a selection box for any of the tool icons double click on the icon. say double click on the paint brush box once the box is up it will change as you move from tool to tool. the water drop tool blurs stuff. the eye drop tool lets you tell what color something is. the bucket tool files an area of the page. or you can even fill the whole page to tint it. the gradient tool. its a square box that black on one side, grey in the middle and white on the other side lets you do a change from one thing to another ie - black brackground to white back ground with grey in the middle. to get the color selection box double click on either the white or black forground/back ground colors at the bottom of the tool menu. to make text or add text to the image 1) click on the T box 2) move the cursor to the image and you will have a vertical bar. click where you want the text to go 3) a box will pop up. enter the text in the bottom box. (you can also set the font, size, tilt and other stuff) when your text is typed click on the OK button. 4) now the text will be displayed on the screen with the marching ants moving around the text. 5) to move the text move the cursor to an edge or where the marching ants are and a + will appear. you can use the mouse to move the text if you grab the text where the "+" is. (note if you click inside the text instead of on the + you will get the diagol box back. 6) to force your text (or any other image) to be placed down now click the mouse where you see the "+". (if you click inside the image you will get the dialog box back) to save a file 1) right click on the mouse 2) select FILE select SAVE AS 3) type in file name to save (pick file type .gif, ... from box) to set undo level 1) right click on mouseA 2 select FILE select PREFERENCES 3) in pop up box that comes us click on the INTERFACE tab enter levels of UNDO click on OK to pick a paint brush to use go 0) mike make a paint brush that JUST PAINTS 1 PIXEL -1) they have a 2 x 2 pixel paint brush its at top right hand corner of brush menu 1) click on right mouse 2) pick DIALOGS pick BRUSHES 3) pick the brush you want from the pop up menu (note you can make new paint brushes as defined on page 47. you can have a paint brush that contains your signed name written in scrolling letters, or other images such as a peace sign ) to make a new paint brush image (see page 47) 1) cut the image from an existing image 2) copy it to a blank screen (with white back ground) 3) convert it to a grey scale image hit right mouse key select IMAGE select GREYSCALE 4) flip the colors and make it a negative hit right mouse key select IMAGE select COLORS select INVERT 5) save it as a .GBR file (Gimp Brush file) 6) move it to $HOME/.gimp/brushes/xxx.gbr 7) go to the brush area with right mouse click select DIALOG select BRUSHES hit the REFRESH key at the bottom to see the new brush YES IT DID WORK!!!!!! i gotta a NIPPLE brush a easier way to make brushes is 1) mark the image with the square, or circle box 2) hit right mouse button select SCRIPT-FU select SELECTION select TO-BRUSH it will save it directly to the brush area to undo stuff hit cntl/z to paste stuff you copied cntl/v to copy stuff you selected cntl/c to select a pattern to use as background or fill in an area 1) click on right mouse 2) select DIALOGS select PATTERNS 3) click on the pattern you want 4) click on the BUCKET to fill the area in the BUCKET menu (double click BUCKET to get BUCKET menu) you can make the fill transperent OPACITY so you can see thru the pattern to make a new pattern OPEN A NEW WINDOW if you dont open a new WINDOW and use a GIF or other FILE it gives you problems when you try to make it seamless to make a pattern you must 1st make it seamless so you can overlap a bunch of them do it this way 1) click on right mouse 2) select FILTERS select MAP select MAKE SEAMLESS 3) to save the pattern write it out as a .PAT file 4) move it to $HOME/.gimp/patterns 5) click on right mouse select DIALOGS select PATTERNS hit REFRESH button to see the pattern (in my case it didnt refresh until i got out of gimp and came back in) ------------------ this way you can also save backgrounds like you save brushes hit right mouse button select SCRIPT-FU select SELECTION select TO-IMAGE once you select something and get the marching ants that circle what you selected you can only operate on the selected part of the image. to get around this cntl/T allows you to toggle the marching ants and do stuff on the whole file and then get the marching ants back. cntl/t works on everything TEXT selected, square grabs, circle grabs ---------------------------------------------------- to select several areas how down the SHIFT key when you click on the mouse and select a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th item. when you hit the cntl/C all things selected will be copied. when you hit the cntl/V key all things selected will be pasted to the new area. last you can select OVERLAPPING areas. again hold down the SHIFT key when you click on the mouse for your 2nd thru n'th selection. you can mix square areas, with circle areas and with hand picked areas. last you can SNIP out parts of the areas selected by holding down the CNTL key when you click on the mouse to select a 2nd area. in this case i used a square to grab an entire naked girl who just happens to have a fantastic set of boobs. then i held down the CNTL with the mouse and snipped out her nipples and pussy to make the picture clean enough to children in public. ----------------------------------------------- see page 66 in the book for the rules on how CNTL/SHIFT work in all the combinations and permutations for cntl (CENTER/DELETE) and shift (PERFECT/ADD) but pretty much its 1) press first key 2) click on mouse 3) press 2nd key (or release one key and then press on another) selecting rectangles and elipse identifying the CENTER point instead of using both edges. and/or making PERFECT squares or perfect circles. CNTL - cause elipse or rectangle to be defined from its center SHIFT - says make a PERFECT CIRCLE or SQUARE - no rectangle or elipses allowed ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ creating elipses and rectangles by defining the center point of the circle or square. (an elipse or rectangle is an imperfect circle or imprefect square) 1) click on mouse 2) hit CNTL key 3) select circle or square - cause you to select a circle or square with the mouse starting at the CENTER of whats to be selected. (note when deleting area this cause a conflict and the conflict is fixed by timing of when you release/touch the keys defined on page 61) to ADD a 2nd elipse or rectangle and defining the elipse or rectangle using the center point using CNTL key which cause conflict 1) 1st area already selected 2) hit SHIFT (we want to add another area 3) click mouse at center point of area to add 4) hold down CNTL key 5) draw elipse or square 6) release mouse to DELETE a an elipse or rectangle area from an existing area using CNTL key which cause conflicts 1) 1st area already selected 2) hit cntl (were deleting the area) 3) click on mouse (at center of area to pick) 4) release cntl 4) hit CNTL to tell it to find it from CENTER of the area 5) define elipse or rectangle to remove 6) remove mouse ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ creating perfect CIRCLES and PERFECT SQUARES by defining the center point of the circle or square. 1) hold down SHIFT key 2) click on center of PERFECT CIRCLE or PERFECT SQUARE 3) last press on CNTL key 4) use mouse to define CIRCLE/SQUARE 5) release MOUSE (if you release SHIFT or CNTL first it wont work) to add another selection do exactly what i just did again remember that SHIFT means 1) add a new area or 2) make a PERFECT CIRCLE SQUARE to subtract a PERFECT CIRCLE or PERFECT SQUARE from an existing area do this 1) hit CNTL key (CNTL means subtract) 2) click on center of PERFECT SQUARE or CIRCLE to subtract 3) now hold down SHIFT+CNTL 4) use mouse to define CIRCLE or SQUARE 5) release mouse ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ magic wand - its used to do color selections - say you have a black image on a white background. you tell the magic wand what color to select and it selects everything of that color. NOTE:if the magic wand doesnt grab everything you want you can use the SHIFT key to grab other keys with any of the tools that grab stuff to expand the area in the 2nd example i wanted to cut out a penis thats squirting cum into a babes mouth. so clicked on the magic wand on one color on the penis, then did a SHIFT+CLICK on all the other colors on the penis and cum to add them all together to the penis and cum image. in the 1st example i have the BLACK LETTERS PAUL PUTZ and instead of BLACK i want the LETTERS to be a WALLPAPER of penis's. so to change them i 1) click on a letter with the magic wand. 2) the magic wand will select the whole letter cuz i clicked on a black pixel and it finds all matching black pixels that touch it. now the letter P is selected 3) use the paint bucket took to fill in the selected area with the background that contains penis's 4) fill in the rest of the letters UAL PUTZ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ bezier tool 1) select middle box in 2nd row it has an old fashioned fountain pen with a curved line and a dot in it 2) click on all your points. 3) after you click on a point you get a optional handle with a circle in the middle and 2 squares on each end. you can rotate the handle to make the line curve. if you hit the SHIFT key you can rotate each square end seperatly. 4) when done click inside the defined image and the marching ants will come on. (i filled in the darwin fish with this tool. it seems pretty usefull but it also takes some learning on how the tool generates its curves as you pull on the handle. it also appears that the last curve has some relataion to the current curve your drawing. ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ intelligent scissors it analyizes color. it finds where the edges are different colors. you draw a line and moves line to color values that match dont match? n) its like the bezier tool. the marching ants dont come on untill you click inside the image you have drawn. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ to draw a border around something 1) select the image or thing to draw a border around with any selection tool 2) click right mouse select SELECT select BORDER (a pop up box asks for the border size in pixels 3) use any other tool to fill in the border such as the paint bucket to draw a border manually do it this way 1) draw outside square with a square 2) subtract inside square by going A) press down CNTL b) click on starting inside corner c) release CNTL d) draw inside square e) release mouse f) fill in color g) cntl/SHIFT/A to turn off marching ants ----------------------------------------------------------------- an easier way to draw a line around stuff is with the STROKE command 1) select what you want outlined 2) click on right mouse select EDIT select STROKE 3) it uses your current paint brush setting to draw a line around what you have selected. do it with the penis or tit for putz.! draw a halo of penis's around paul putz's head. ----------------------------------------------------------------- if you need a guide or ruler to help you place an image on the screen you can grab either the ruler on the top line or the ruler on the right and drag them any where you want on the screen. then you can use the rulers as guides to help you place an image. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gif files to save files as .gif for the web 1) right click mouse 2) select IMAGE select INDEXED 3) in the box that comes up make sure you have a - 256 colors or less b - use the button Generate Optimal palette (dont click on Use WWW-optimized! its for monitors from the dark ages like i have at home ) c - when you save the file click on the INTERLACE button that causes the files to be layered and show one part at a time as they are down loaded off the web. on the other hand dont click on it it make make the files be goofy ----------------------------------------------------------------- when rotating stuff you can hold down the CNTL key to rotate in 15 degree increments to magnify, shrink, rotate, flip , squish, expand, fatten use the Transform Tool its 1st row 4th box down and the one that flips is in 2nd row 4th box down and the cropping tool is in the 3rd row, 3rd one down. crops what you selected and makes a new image out of it with the image just the size that you cropped it at. nice you can make FAT people SKINNY by using the PERSPECTIVE and squishing them you can make SKINNY people FAT by using PERSPECTIVE and streching them make linda fatter and paul skinner. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- HSV - color model H - HUE 3 RGB colors 1 byte R value 1 byte G value 1 byte B value S - Saturation - 0% = grey 100% = full color 1 byte S value V - Value - percent light 0% = black 100% = white 1 byte V value gif files use an index where you have 256 colors for any image to get the pallet used for an image go click INDEXED PALLETS select DIALOGS select INDEXED PALLETES or froselect INDEXED PALLETS once you have the pallet you can click on any colors and used them to changed colors. when you click on a color in the pallet it moves the color to either the forground or background color on your TOOL ICON KIT and then you can use the color to edit stuff. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- transparent images - YOU HAVE TO SAVE THE TRANSPARENT IMAGE IN A FORMAT THAT SUPPORTS TRANSPARENT IMAGES (like gif) ELSE WHEN YOU DISPLAY IT IT WONT BE TRANSPARENT to create an image as transparent click on the box TRANSPARENT when you create the image ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (right mouse click) IMAGE COLORS EQUALIZE - use to clean up images that are too BLACK or too WHITE gives lowest color in image a 0 and highest color a 255 and adjusts all other colors to the new range POSTERIZE - reduces the number of colors in an images special effects like the 60's. mabye it could be said it reduces the image to color shadows that are not well defined. THRESHOLD - reduces image to BLACK AND WHITE but on a LARGE AREA BASIS kinda like POSTERIZE but removes the color to and reduces it to black and white. maybe it could be better said it changes the image to shadows. COLOR BALANCE - allows you to generate special color effects on the images its like playing with the color control knobs on a TV and making the people all GREEN or all RED BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST - can generate COLOR NEGITIVES like in photos for weird special effects. - also can dim & brighten like black a& white tv you can turn an image into a ghost image. HUE/Saturation - remember that HSV color model (Hue, Saturation, Value) this allows you to play games with each part of it. you can create some weird color effects or simulate low light conditions by reducing the lightness and stauration CURVES - these can be used to create WEIRD special color effects. if you change to curve from a straigh line to a sign wave really weird colors will show up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- to move stuff that is in a transparent area you must either 1) click on something that isnt transpaarent 2) hold down the SHIFT key and click on the transparent area ---------------------------------------------------------------------- to turn off the marching ants its almost impossible if its impossible to turn off the marching ants you may have been doing 3 things, and you have to undo 2 things say you 1) click on text 2) clicked on square rope 3) clicked on graidiant then to undo you have to 4) while in graidiant click mouse on marching ants 5) go back to square rope box and click mouse on marching ants 6) go back to text box and click mouse on marching ants in layers to stop the fucking marching ants use the ANCHOR button on the layers menu to ANCHOR down stuff that you add like text added pictures images its like the CNTL/SHIFT/A used for other stuff other layers command cntl/n - create new layer cntl/c - copy or duplicate an existing layer cntl/x - delete a layer cntl/s - scale layer? cntl/r - resize layer cntl/m - merge all the VISIBLE layers into one layer flattening the layers - compresses all the layers into one layer to add a new layer 1) click on right mouse 2) select LAYERS 3) select LAYERS AND CHANNELS 4) click on LEFT box at the BOTTOM which looks like a piece of paper with a fold on the top 5) give the layer a name so its easy to work with make the lawyer so its transparent (i guess) click on OK the layer thats high lighted in blue is the area your changes go into. in this im drawing a circle around some ladys boobs. the circle is going into layer 3 which is active. the EYEBALL shows which layers are being displayed. in this case the ladys boobs in layer 1 are being displayed and layer 3 which im orming on is being displayed. to rename a layer click on it to turn it blue. then double click on it to rename it. it looks like for ANIMATED GIF files each layer name has the amount of time it should run like layer 1 (1000ms) to make a copy of one layer (like in the gif where i have the picture of the babe 6 times use the layers icon with the 2 sheets of paper to duplicate a layer. to delete a layer use the X icon ---------------------------------------------------------------------- right click mouse select EDIT COPY VISIBLE this is used when working on several layers to copy all the stuff from ONLY THE VISIBLE LAYERS i did it when copyied the moon and stars from the active moon layer + star layer and pasted them onto the water layer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- layer masks a layer mask works like this. its a grey scaled image over some other image black on the layer mask blocks out the 2nd image white layer allows you to see 100% of the 2nd image grey layers allow varying percents of the 2nd image to be seen to add a layer mask 1) add a NEW layer when the POP UP box comes up click ---------------------------------------------------------------------- on FILTERS you can only run a filter on part of the image by selecting the part (ie circle it, box it, grab it by color, or some what you just cut with CNTL/v when you do the paste the edges will be feathered in when you cut something and paste it on a solid background the feathering tool make it look much better by merging it in. feathering is also usefull when your cutting nude babes and pasting them else where. it makes them blend in better. its also usefull when you have a shaky hand and cant follow the lines exactly to cut the image. when i cut the image of the arizona map i feather it and just roughly followed the lines and it cut arizona and pasted it perfecltyly.
