Matilda Jennings was born 3 Mar 1828 the daughter of Hiram Jennings and Mary Rhodebaugh. Alfred & Matilda left New York in 1850-53 for Ohio, then came to Michigan. With him came his brother?cousin? named Benjamin Cowles.
Alfred may have been a descendent of John Cowles who emigrated to Massachusetts in 1635, but I have never been able to establish the names of Alfred's parents. A new theory is that Alfred's parents may have been Benjamin and Philaura "Laura" Lilly COWLES of the Town of Winfield, NY on the Oneida/Herkimer
County border. This Benjamin Cowles was born in Wales. I am pursuing this possibility based on the similarity of first names that occur in Benjamin & Alfred's families.

George Edwin Cowles married Malinda Wilcox 31 Dec 1876 in Fulton Township, Gratiot County, MI. Malinda Wilcox was born 29 Jan 1858 in Iowa, the daughter of Elijah Wilcox and Helen Boardman.
