Hattiesburg AmericanThe Hattiesburg newspaper began in 1897 as the weekly Hattiesburg Progress and two years later became the Daily Progress. The Hattiesburg Daily News acquired it in 1907. With the U.S.’s entry into World War I, it was renamed the Hattiesburg American. The Harmon family bought it in the 1920s; in 1960 it went to the Hederman family, who sold it to Gannett in 1982. |
