They look like harmless Teddy Bears!
Don't let that fool you!! They
are animals.
Pandas are black and white. They do not walk on their hind legs and they do not hiberbnate.
Other great facts about Panda's
1. Weigh between 165 -353 pounds.
2. They are 4 to 5 feet in length.
3. Their tail is only 5 inches long.
4. Sense of smell is great.
5. Their vision is not good.
6. Their fur is thick and
wooly and slightly oily to prevent
water penetration.
7. Panda Bears love Bamboo.
8. Pandas are solitary creatures.
9. Wild Pandas are found only in China.
10. Ailuropoda melanoleuca is the scientific name.
We really need to help these
animals. There are only around
1000 left in the wild.
At birth, baby pandas could
fit in a teaspoon, weighing between 90 and 130 grams.
Sometimes, a giant panda mother can accidentally crush its newborn.
Panda's live in the dense bamboo and coniferousmountains of central China.
Habitat loss
and poaching have been major
reasons for the species' decline, but pandas are also in big
demand by zoos around the world.
In the past, loans from China have created incentives
for removing pandas from the
wild, and although they are more carefully
regulated today, the loans must
be closely monitored to ensure they do not threaten
the panda's survival in the
wild.
