YESHUA IN THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES

"Jesus" is "Yeshua" in Hebrew.

The English word "Jesus" comes from the older English word Iesou, or Iesus. (There was no "J" in English until early in the 17th Century).

"Iesou"1 is from the earlier Greek; the "I" pronounced as a "Y" in English. The Greek Septuagint (LXX)2 was the original Hebrew transliterated into Greek as Iesou.

From this, we learn that Iesou (Jesus' Name), therefore, was originally Yeshua in Hebrew. According to the LXX, Iesou: "Yeshua" was Joshuas' name. "Yeshua" corresponds to words # 3442, #3443 and #3444 in Strong's Concordance.

The New Testament uses Joshuas' name as the LXX has it. Joshua was a "type" of Messiah Yeshua. Yeshua (Joshua) led the children of Israel into the Promised Land because Moses, although permitted to look upon it, could not go. Only those that followed Joshua ("Yeshua") entered.

FOOTNOTES

[1]The Greek language has another word for being Saved also: "sozo". The translators of the New Testament did not use this word, but specifically tranliterated the Hebrew word "Yeshua" to "Iesou" in the text. There is no known explanation for this except very possibly to tell us His Hebrew Name.

Iesou" is NOT a Greek word.
