The Hurt Family

This is how Alice Johnston Hurt looked during the war. At the time she lived in Lebanon, KY. Her father had beed stabbed to death by a horse thief at his father-in-laws home. This photo was taken in Louisville, KY on a trip to see her mother's younger brother, Billie Mayes, who was a war prisoner at the time. Contributed by Deborah Roig.

Scott Extine Johnston and William "Willie" Bear Johnston, children of William Bear Johnston and Margaret Keturah Mayes. Willie was born in July 1861-- so since she was the last child of William Bear, being born after he died -- she was given his full name, but went by the name Willie. The photos were taken in Louisville, KY on a trip to see their mother's younger brother, Billie Mayes, who was a war prisoner at the time. Contributed by Deborah Roig.
