The following is a poem written by William Harper Castles to his wife Esther Catherine Jimmerson (affectionally called "Kittie"). Contributed by Kathyrn Fiss Phillips.
To Kittie
When the evenings zephyrs blowing,
Rustling thro' your leaf clad tree.
When nature is all quiet, resting,
Then O, Then. Think of me.
- Think of one who loves you fondly.
- One who would you could but be.
- His forever and His only.
- Think of me! Think of me.
Think of me while youth surrounds us.
As we launch on life's stormy sea.
O! give me now, a hope, a transient token.
That you'll always think of me.
- And in future when beauty fadeth,
- When wrinkles sear thy brow.
- Throw thyself upon this bosom.
- I would love thee then as now.
