Grandma's Corner

COME ON IN!! I'd like you to meet a very special lady. This is my Grandma, Maebelle Johnson. She is the best Grandma anyone could have and I love her so much. She is the most caring and loving person I know. Not only is she my Grandma, but she is also my "SPECIAL FRIEND". She has always been someone I could talk to and confide in about any problem. She is always willing to listen and advise as best she could. No matter when I made mistakes (and I made a lot) she is always there with love and support. I know her love for the Lord has made her the "GREAT LADY" that she is today. Her faith and trust in God has gotten her through many hard times.

She lives in Conway, S.C. She is the mother of 10 children, all of whom are still living except my mother. She has 37 grandchildren, 54 great-grands, and 4 great-great-grands. She also has 5 step-children, 2 are deceased. They gave

her 15 step-grands and 11 step-great grands.

Some of Grandma's favorite things to do is have loved ones come to visit or call on the phone. She also loves talking about the LORD, listening to good gospel music or watching gospel programs on TV. She also loves to watch the birds. This is her favorite bird.

She is a widow lady. Her first husband was George Small, my grandfather. They were married September 16, 1933 and he died May 25, 1947 leaving her with 6 children to raise and support. She married Don Todd September 5, 1949, he had five children and together they had 4 more children. He died October 22, 1970. She married Buster Johnson March 5, 1983 and had a wonderful life together in their "golden years" until his death October 9, 1985.

She was born July 2, 1920 to L.J. and Emily Duncan. She is 1 of 9 children, there were 5 older and 1 younger brothers and 2 older sisters. All of whom are deceased except her oldest sister (passed away 8-27-97) and younger brother.

This is Grandma's church. Bethlehem Baptist Church, located on Hwy. 905, in the Shell Community. She has attended this church since 1948.

She has always had a great love for her family and friends. She has always been there to lend a helping hand no matter the time or day. Now her health is very bad. She has been on oxygen for over 2 years. Now she needs the love and support that she has always given. She is ready to go HOME anytime the Lord is ready to call her. Until that time would you please remember her in your prayers.

2-7-98

On February 1, 1998 Grandma made her final journey. She is now one of Heaven's Saints. There are so many little things that will make me think of her. It was the little things that made her happy. I have so many wonderful memories and will always keep them in my heart. I know that I'll always think of her everytime I see a hummingbird. I did this page to honor Grandma for Mother's Day 1997. She was so proud of it. Because of the great love I have for her, this page will remain as my tribute to her.

I miss you and I love you Grandma!

The following poem was written for Grandma by my sister, Sandra. This poem was read at Grandma's funeral as Sandra's goodbye to her. I ask that you please not take it.

DEAR GRANNY

I'll miss you, Dear Granny
More than you could know
But my heart is selfish
It doesn't want to let you go.

You suffered so much
In your life that was here
Now you're in Heaven
Where there's no sorrow or fear.

You've laughed and you've cried
And helped others in need
You inspired all who knew you
With every unselfish deed.

Your love of the Lord
Was so sted-fast and strong
You never gave up
When things would go wrong.

Your time here was so precious
You were loved by so many
And we'll continue to love you
Through our memories, plenty.

Now you're in Heaven
Your star shines so bright
There's a smile on your face
That radiates such light.

I can't see them, but I know
A pair of wings, you wear
And a shiny, golden halo
Like all the angels there.

Now I must say good-by
But only for awhile
I love you, Dear Granny
Through my tears, I'll try to smile.

I'll see you in Heaven
When my time here is through
We'll have a grand reunion
Till then, Dear Granny, I'll miss you...

Come visit again!

May God Bless You Always!!
