I have a letter, postmarked October 5, 1944, regarding PFC William Winter.
His military address was  "3502 B.U.A.A.F. (T. S.) , Section H, Barracks
189,  Chanute Field, Illinois".  ( 3502nd refers to a helicopter training
school, according to The US Army Military History Institute.)

He was in Florida in June of '44, and may have been from the Somerville, MA

Thank You.

5.  Fred & Karyn Hinkel

My Winter family can be traced to the small village of Heiman, near
Moosbach (Oberphaltz) in the kingdom of Bavaria.

Micheal WINTER born about 1830 married Margaretha REWITZ at the Catholic Church of Moosbach.

They had five children, Barbara born 1830, Margaretha born 1833, John born 1837, Michael born 1840 and Mathias born 1842.  In 1841 Micheal WINTER, head of household and a extremely heavy man, died at the age of 35 of inflamation of the bowels.  Left to raise four children, and pregnant with
another, Matgaretha struggled through many lean years. She eventually remarried out of neccesity, name unknown.  Story goes that he was a beast of a stepfather, and the two  girls, Barbara and Margarethe bought him off and sent him away never to be seen again.  Soon after, Margaretha (the mother) contracted scarlet fever and in 1848 died.  The older girls took responsibility to keep the family together. Barbara married George RAUCH from the neighboring villiage of Saubersreid and assisted in the welfare
of the boys, while Margaretha began to make a life on her own.  Her aqauintance with George KULZER, eventually to be her husband, persuaded her to depart for America in 1854.  Not yet married, and fearful of being drafted into the German army, KULZER departed Germany under the name of "George WINTER".

After nearly eight weeks at sea, in late May, 1854 George and Margaretha arrived in the port of Philadelphia.  Margaretha and George were married in Pennsylvania at St. Philimena's Catholic Church on July 31, 1854 by Father Max Leimgrubber. About two years later they ended up in Minnesota about three miles out-side of St. Joseph MN.  Margaretha's brother Michael WINTER was the next to arrive in America, around 1860, followed by her sisiter and her brother-in-law, then John and Mathias on November 20, 1865.
The WINTER family was reunited again in Minnesota.

Now my line comes down from Michael, who was born to Michael and
Margaretha in 1840, in Bavaria.

My parents were married in Northampton England June 1944 Margaret Anne Winter to Einar Marcus Winter, he was from Bergen Norway one of 10 children youngest brother Randolph, a sister Ruth who moved to Boston Mas USA just before or during WW2.  My father was in the English OSS
(Operation Strategic Service or Secret Service) in other words a spy, and disappeared after parachuting over Norway in December 1944, three months before I was born, I can find no record of his family anywhere, his father was apparently English and his mother Norwegian, there is also no record of my parents marriage either at Northampton registry office or at St. Catherines House, my birth certificate has his service number but is illegible, all I know is he was rank of sergeant.

Anyone out there can shed some light I would be very grateful. I must
have a family that I know nothing about.

I am looking for information on Jacob Christian Winter.  He was christened in Nordhofen, Germany  February 8, 1682.  His wife's name is Anna Maria, last name unknown.  They had 2 children, Wilhelm and Hendrich, before they immigrated to New York between 1717 and 1723.  It is believed that Wilhelm's name was changed to William when they immigrated.  Jacob and Anna Maria had four children after they immigrated to the colonies:  EvaChristinia, Anna Vroa, Peter, and Mary.  I would also like to confirm the dates for Wilhelm.  I have only approximate dates for him.

I would like to add an additional query for information on Wilhelm Winter.
Here is the information that I know about him.

He was born approximately 1670 in Nordhofen Germany.  He has a son who is also Wilhelm Winter born approximately 1695 in Nordhofen Germany.  Wilhelm immigrated to the colonies around 1726.  Wilhelm married Hester Haldron about 1736.  His mother's name is Margretha.  They were married approximately 1690.  I am looking for any information for both Wilhelm
Winter(s) and his son Wilhelm Winter.

Thank you.

Mark

My ggrandfather was George Thomas Winter (called TOM) and he was born abt. 1851 in Wells, Somerset.  We believe that his parents were George and Francis and that he had a sister named Martha (who may also have been the name of Tom's grandmother).

Tom moved to Handsworth in the West Midlands and married Hannah SHIPTON abt. 1878.  Their children were: William, George, Arthur, Ellen (Nellie), Lucy, Mary Kate (called Polly), and Charles Edward.  Married surnames of the daughters were CHILD, WORSBEY, and WILLIAMS.My
grandfather was Charles Edward and he married Ethel SHEWARD abt 1912 and had children: George, Charles, May, and my mother Mary Kate.  Ethel died when my mother was abt. 4 yrs. old and we know little about her family except that they were from Hill and Moor area near Fladsbury.  Would love to know more of them!

We would also like to know more about Tom's family in Somerset.

If any of this information is familiar to anyone please do contact me.

With thanks,
Alannah
