Although his Civil War records claim he entered the service as 16-18 year old Alexander C. WINTRICH, his obit named him Alexander C. WINTERS. He mustered out of the Civil War as WINTERS and his descendants thus became WINTERS. His children were John E. (my grandfather), Emma Irene, Sylvester Earl and George E. I have all info on John E. and Emma, but would appreciate any info on Alexander's parents or siblings. He was supposedly born S. E. of Columbus OH and lived the rest of his life near Mansfield and Wooster OH.

Thanks for any help.

I wish I had more info, but as it stands, right now I only have a name and the name of a spouse.

I am looking for Laura Belle Winters.  She married Thomas Douthitt, date unknown.  I do know that she was in Kentucky when Thomas died in 1930.  He was born in 1861, but I don't have any birthdate for her.  She married after Thomas died, but I don't have that name either.  They lived in the Georgetown, Midway, Lexington area of Ky, which would have been Scott or Fayette county.  I do know they lived on a farm which is now the "Lane" race horse farm and I think it is located in Midway, Ky.  Thomas died in Fayette county in Ky in 1930 and they were still married then.

Any help would be appreciated.

8. Emily Irons Rogers

This is the information I have about our Winters family.  It is what I have collected from several people and then combined.  The early individuals are not documented by me...but seem to be common information among the "cousins".  Some of the information from Corrine Winteer Bengtson's book, "The Wineteers, Part of Their Story" pub 1985.  Can you add to, provide sources or correct ANY of this information?

Our Moses Winters (Wunteers, Wynteer) was born in Fishkill, NY. about 1728. He married Elizabeth Williams about 1747 and they had 9 or 10 children:

1. Moses Winters, Jr.. m. ?Jane Charlton.  Listed as "Moses Winter Jr." on property list of Montgomery Co. VA. 1790 along with "Moses Winter Sr." and brother "William Winter".

2. Obadiah Winters.  Died young.

3. John Obediah (Wineteer) Winters (b. bet 1750-1760) m. Margaret "Peggy" d. 1831 Montgomery Co. VA.  The "History of Clark Co. OH" states that  '"Lewis Winters was b. in NY in the year 1768, two of his brothers having served in the Rev War, one of whom John Winters, being captured by the British suffered the rigors of confinement in a prison ship."  There are also Nat Archives records file on John Winters who served in 1780 in the 3rd Reg of NY Levies under Col Morris Graham..  The Moses Winters who also served under the same Col Graham was accepted as a patriot by the DAR.  Wouldn't these be brothers?  Possibly any family who died at the time they were in VA. would be in the "burying ground" given by their son John Winteer to the Meadow Creek Baptist Church, all of which has now disappeared.

4. Mary "Pollie" Winters b. 1755 Dutchess Co. NY. d. 11 Apr 1839 Clark Co. OH.

5. William Winters m. Livinia Stephens 1787 in Montgomery Co. VA.
[Descendants being researched by Sarah Lundblade and Harold Winters - 10717  Kinlock Road, Silver Spring, MD.  20903].  William (son of Moses and Elizabeth) had a son Thomas, who had a son Lester m. Lucinda Price who moved to Kansas during the late 1870's from Coles Co. IL. and settled in Douglas Co.

6. Lewis Winters b. 1768 NY. m. 1799 Franklin Co. VA. Anne Prillaman.  They left Montgomery Co. VA. and moved to KY. then to Miami Co. OH. settling near Dayton about 1805.  Lewis and Anne had twelve children: Jacob, Elizabeth, Obediah, Margaret, John, James, Daniel, William, Susannah "Susan" b. 1816, Sarah b. 1818, Mary, and Thomas b. 1822 m. Louisa.  Lewis and Anne Prillaman Winters were still in Miami Co. OH. in 1840.  Lewis Winters died by 1850.

7. Chloe Winters . m. Jacob (Benjamin) Bingaman 1795 Montgomery Co. VA. {Descendants found in the book "Bingaman Family History" by Audrey Bingaman Patterson, 226 North Indiana Avenue, Griffith, IN.  46319 (1985)].

8. Phoebe Winters

9. Obediah Winters m. Elizabeth Prillaman. [Descendants of Obediah and brother Lewis found in "The Prillaman Family", rev 1980 by Norris Prillaman Miller, Rt. 5 Box 466, Martinsville VA  24112].

In the early 1780s Obediah and Elizabeth Winters moved to Montgomery Co. VA and settled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Moses Winters became a merchant and large land holder and farmer in VA.  A History of Miami Co. includes the names of Moses and Elizabeth Winters as original members of the Staunton Baptist Church when it was formed 1 Dec 1804.  Moses Winters died at the age of 94 (1822) in Miami Co. OH. where he was living with his son Obadiah.  No death date for Elizabeth has been found yet.

Obediah Winters married Elizabeth Prillaman in VA.  They had children: Nancy Winters; Christopher Winters; Lydia Winters; Pollie Winters; Aaron Winters; Preston Winters; Moses Winters b. 1800 in VA.; Lewis Winters b. 1801 VA.; Bradley Winters b. 1803 VA.; Sarah Winters b. 1805 VA. m. William Prillaman abt 1822; Elizabeth Winters b. 1810 VA.; and Cynthia Winters b. 1818 VA.

Obediah and Elizabeth Prillaman Winters made the move throught Kentucky to Ohio with brother Lewis Winters.  and in 1836 went on to Putnam Co. IL. on horseback.  They died there in 1849. Sons Moses b. 1800, Lewis b. 1801, Christopher b. abt 1806 and daughters Nancy, Lydia, and Cynthia all came with their parents to IL.  William Bradley Winters b. 1803 stayed in IN.  Sarah Winters b. 1805 had married William Prillaman and they stayed in Bluffton, Wells Co. IN. their entire lives.

Our family comes from Sarah Winters and William Prillaman.

Hope this information will tie in with yours.  As I mentioned, I don't have many of the sources for much of this information.  I can provide a GEDCOM of what I have collected.

Thanks.

I am looking for information about my grandmother. All I have is what my mother has told me about her family and little else but maybe it will help someone else.

My grandmother was Anna(Annie) Bell Winters.  Born Jan 10 1874  Died May? 1958. She had a sister Named Molly and 3 half-brothers. She lived most of her life around Stewart and Henry counties in Tn. I believe she had a sister or half-sister named Aida (Ida) who married a Lee  and also Lived in Stewart County Sister Molly married Elijah Merrell, lived somewhere in NC.  Brother Bob (Robert) Winters wife Cordie, don't know her maiden name, had a son Claud. Other two brother I knew only as Charlie and Jim. Jim Winters was supposed to have been a sheriff in Stewart County Tn sometime in the Late 1800's or early 1900's. that all I have .I hope its useful.

Thankyou

Jennie married 30 July 1876 in Stanton, Montcalm Co., MI  to:
           Henry William BOWEN.  (my grandparents)

In an Isabella Co., MI history book I find the following bio on Byron Charles WINTERS:

"Byron Winters, of the firm of Rowlader & Winters, general merchants at Blanchard, is a son of WILLIAM & SUSAN (BROWN) WINTERS; natives of Canada & New York.  The mother was born in 1829 and died in 1877 in Lincoln Township, this county.  The father was born in 1826 in the State of New York, went with his parents to Canada, and in 1862 came to this State and County and settled in Fremont Township, where he died in 1863.

The subject of this sketch was born August 15, 1853 in CN and came to MI with his parents, at whose home he remained until 23 years old.  He was then married to Maggie Rowlawho was born in 1856, in Barry Co., MI. and is the daughter of John and Mary A. (Wooley) Rowlader.  The father was engaged in farming and in sawing lumber until 1884, when he brought an interest with his son-in-law at Blanchard.

Mr & Mrs Winters are the parents of two children living:  Zenith, born Jan 1, 1877; and Jay, born Nov 14, 1878.  A son Johnnie, was born Feb 2, 1881 and died Dec 28, 1881.  Mr Winter is a member of the I.O.O.F. and is politically a Republican."

                              ***************

William R. WINTERS is found on the 1851 Norfolk Co., CN (Windham Township) census with wife Susan, Wilkinson and Byron.  On the Michigan 1870 Fremont Township, Isabella Co., MI census I find Susan with the children, but no William at that time.  Most of my information is taken from census and the small bio on Byron.

I have hit a dead end in trying to trace other children, other than my
grandmother, Inez "Jennie".  I have been unable to find death certificates on either William or Susan and have tracked cemeteries in those areas, to no avail.

Any help or information from anyone working on this family(s) would be
greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

24. Martha S. Winters

The father of my children (deceased) was a Winters.  For my children I am attempting to find out what I can about his roots.  Unfortunately, I know very little.  This is what I do know:

His father, John Henry Winters was born March 30, 1883 in New Jersey, he married Martha E. Cole on November 23, 1910 in New Jersey.  He died March 1975 in Phoenix, AZ.

John Henry Winters had two siblings, Mary and Jessie (both females).  Mary married William E. Richards in New Jersey and lived there all her life. Jessie never married and lived with Mary and her husband in Roselle Park, NJ most of her life.  For the last few years of her life she lived in Arizona with John and Martha, she died July 1982 in Phoenix, AZ.

John Henry Winters had three children, born in New Jersey, Mildred (who married Eugene Enteman in New Jersey), John (Jack) never married and Robert Erwin Winters who I married on October 1, 1953 in Phoenix, AZ.

I hope someone can add to this information for me.  If I can help
someone else I would be glad to.
