The following information came from "Landmarks of Oswego County," and I am looking to obtain additional information the WINTERS and LEMONIER individuals.

"About 1807 John LEMANIER came in, and in that same year married Sally WINTERS, which was the first marriage solemnized in Schroeppel.  The ceremony was performed by a justice of the peace from Onondaga County, who soon learned that he had exceeded his powers as magistrate by going outside of his jurisdiction.  The next day he got the couple on the other side of the river and retied the nuptual now according to law.  David WINTERS was another
settler in 1807, and located on the river bank on lot 35."

Would appreciate any comments or possible matches

Also, can you recommend any respectable New York/New England WINTERS resources?

19. Yvonne Williams

My gmother (Arah Tansey) kept an autograph book from 1881 to 1890 while living in Decatur Co, Iowa.  (This was just a few years before her
second marriage.)  The book contains an entry from a Josie Winters,
dated Sept. 3rd, 1888, Weldon, Iowa, Decatur Co.

Specifically, Josie Winters wrote:
Dear Friend Arah,/ When on this page you chance to see/ remember me./
From your friend/and well wisher/ Josie Winters

In the upper left margin she wrote,
Think of me..
In the lower left corner, she wrote diagonally:
Sept. 3rd, 1888
Weldon Iowa Decatur Co.

The handwriting is very neat, Spencerian style.

Best wishes,
Yvonne Barnthouse Williams

WINTERS> Upstate New York

Looking for all Winter/Winters in Upstate NY (Clinton County and South along Champlain) late 1700's and early 1800's.  Trying to find a connection to a Hessian Soldier, as Legend has it we came from one.  I am back to John Winters, b. 1801...lived Plattsburgh 1830.  Son William b. Plattsburgh 1824...wife Harriet Reynolds. There was a William Winters (father of John?) in 1820 Plattsburgh census with several sons and daughters.  Have had not much luck with Plattsburgh records.  Family was  all Methodist/Episcopal so I've been trying to find out about those records.

Any suggestions???

22. Janet (Winter) Hunt

WINTERS> Pulaski, Indiana

Does anyone have any information about John, Jake or (Jacob) and Matthew Winters of Pulaski, Indiana  cir. 1870's - 1900 .  John had 4 children Gleta m. Ed Scheuer, John Edwin M. Irene Bond, Carl M. Edna Bailey, and Owen (Cap) m. Gerri Hatfield.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

23. Ted Holden

WINTERS> New York

Jared WINTERS is listed in the Clay, Onondaga Co. NY, 1840 Census with a family of 2 males 0-5, 3 males 5-10, l male 15-20, 1 males 40-50, one female 15-20, and one female 20-30.  We believe his wife was named Lydia Ann.

We also think there children were as follows:

1.  Thankful WINTERS, b ca 1829  Married Asa CARP
2.  Garret WINTERS, b ca 1831, NY
3.  Dudley WINTERS, b March 6, 1833 in Canandaigue, Ontario Co. NY
4.  Henry WINTERS, b ca 1834 NY
5.  James WINTERS, b ca 1836 NY
6.  Horace WINTERS, b 1840 NY
7.  William WINTERS, b NY

Dudley married Susan Elizabeth HALENBECK (HOLLENBECK), probably in New York between 1850-1852.    Most of the children relocated eventually to various places in Michigan, and most of the boys enlisted to fight in the Civil war together.  I have lots of information on these families and would like to share research and notes with others that connect.

24. Lavon Mundinger

WINTERS> Athens Co., Ohio> Louisa Co., Iowa

William WINTERS,  born June 20, 1802, probably in Athens County, Ohio.  Married Anne SNOOK  August 14, 1825  in Jackson County, Ohio.  Anne's parents were John SNOOK   and Nancy BRION OR BRIAN.  Anne was born August l, 1806 in Ohio.

Would like to learn the identify of William's parents.

The children of William and Anne were:   George WINTERS  born May 3, 1826; Mary WINTERS  born  December  23, 1827 and married Robert GRIMES; John WINTERS BORN fEBRUARY 11, 1833;  married  October  12, 1855 in Louisa County, Iowa, to Heuldah LEUCKEY. The fourth child was Nancy WINTERS, born November 14, 1829 in Jackson County, Ohio; married (1) Jonathan GRAHAM and (2) Asher DENNIS.  John MUNDINGER is descended from Nancy and Asher DENNIS. William owned land in Ohio adjoining that of his father-in-law John SNOOK.

Hope to find someone to exchange information with.  Thanks.

I rec'd a response from someone who may really be connected and I am
including the information I transcribed for her from my grandmother's Bible.

>From Nelda Bean (Beanfoxy@aol.com) who responded when I emailed her.

Children of : Louisa Jane Reddin (Redden?) abt 1843 and Richard Winters abt 1845

Lilly S. Winters  abt 1871, married a Petty
John M. Winters abt 1873
Mary E. Winters abt 1875 ( this could easily be your gmother)
Richard Winters abt 1877
Nocy Ann Winters abt 1879, married a Petty, married a Neve

The father Richard Winters died or left the family abt 1880 because the
census records showed Louisa Jane as head of household.  And she remarried in 1881 to a Jasper Dixon.

>From my Winters Bible

>From a bible my grandmother, Mary E. Wilson had when she died.  She had two, one given to her by her husband, Riley Andrew Wilson, and one that appears to be a Winters bible since all the names in it are Winters.  I am sending it as I copied it ( I do not currently have the bible) including
differences in spelling, dates that I could not clearly read, etc.
Parenthesis usually indicate a questionable letter or number.

Granny kept a letter from Agness Buyer or Buger dated March 23, 18(?9)2 where she apologized for not answering a letter sooner.  Reason was that "Babe" had died recently and she had been seeing her everyday.  "She died on the 17th of this month and she died in her right mind  She was in her bed one hundred and 5 dayes...." continuing ...."and on the day she dide we had a snow about 3 inches.."  She goes on to say that it did not hurt her trees.  Agness also writes about "cousin Mel Glass" of whom she had sent a pic in a previous letter and asking that Granny send him a note in the next letter.  She writes that she thinks "john will come out all write.  The gran jury did not find any true bill but the prosscuting party then sent and fild a bill of infurmation agains him"  This could be John Mack Winters.  She calls Granny "Sis" many times in the letter and a note written upside down on the back page says "oh sis i wish yo could see little frankey an Po graves".

I have a ledger page that has a list of first names only.  Agness is on the
page, but do not know the connection.
