James B. Morrow, Among the farmers of Union Township few are deserving of more respect than the subject of this brief sketch, who was born in Butler County, Missouri, in 1839, and the eldest of a family of two sons and three daughters born to Jesse V. and Lucinda (Brannum) Morrow. Mr. Morrow as a native of one of the Carolinas, and was born in 1814, but went, when a boy, with his parents to Tennessee, and in about 1833 to Butler County, Missouri, where Mr. and Mrs. Morrow both died within a few hours of each other, when James B. was but a boy. John M. Morrow the grandfather of James B. was a son of John Morrow who immigrated from Ireland to America prior to the war for independence. James Brannum, the maternal grandfather of our subject, was an early settler of Butler County, Missouri, where he died, a prominent farmer, merchant, and miller. When the subject of this sketch was about eight years of age his parents removed from Butler County, Missouri to Van Buren County, Ark., and about four years after they removed to Conway County, where Mrs. Morrow died about 1853. Mr. Morrow married again and continued to reside in Conway County till about 1873 when he removed to Douglas County, Missouri where he died in 1879. He was a lifelong farmer, and was Justice of the Peace some years in Conway County, and many years a worthy member of the Missionary Baptist Church. James B. Morrow grew to manhood on a farm in the pioneer days of Arkansas when schools were almost unknown there, hence his educational advantages were of the most meagre kind. He was married in Conway County in 1857, to Miss Mary Brewer a daughter of William and Cora L. Brewer, who removed from Tennessee to Conway County about the year 1848. Here Mr. Brewer died in 1857. Mrs. Brewer is still living. Mrs. Morrow was born in Tennessee, and died in Conway County, Ark. in 1880, being the mother of five children, of whom three sons are living. Mr. Morrow married his present wife in 1881. She was formerly Susan J. Dickens, who removed from Tennessee to what is now Faulkner County, where Mrs. Dickens died about 1863. Mr. Dickens died in Boone County about 1875. Mrs. Morrow is a native of Gibson Co., West Tennessee, and is the mother of four choldren, of whom three sons are living. With the exception of one year (1868) in Douglas County, Missouri, Mr. Morrow has lived in Conway County since his boyhood. In 1873 he settled in the woods, six miles northwest of Springfield, where he now resides, owning a farm of 120 acres, about seventy acres of which is under cultivation.

During his lifetime, he was a man who lent ready assistance to all measures which promised to improve the community of his home. He was a Royal Arch Mason, and both he and his worthy wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. THE EARLY CHARLES EADS (EADES) OF KENTUCKY

There were two EADS (EADES) from Virginia who moved to Kentucky by way of North Carolina, both of whom married wives by the name of SARAH and both of who served in the Revolutionary War.
******************************
CHARLES EADES OF LOGAN CO., KY
******************************
CHARLES EADES was born in Amherst County, Virginia 10 March 1755. He was the son of THOMAS EADES of Amherst Co., VA. His father was still living in 1791 as there is a deed in the Amherst Co. deed records which indicates that THOMAS EADES sold land to his son, BARTLETT EADES in 1791. This BARTLETT EADES also appears in the Shaker records of South Union, Logan Co., KY. as being the brother of CHARLES EADES. CHARLES EADES enlisted as a soldier in 1775. He served four and one half years in the Revolutionary War. On one occasion while returning home he visited his brother, ABRAHAM EADES, in Henry County, VA. CHARLES EADES was listed in the 1779 personal property tax lists of Campbell County, VA. He last served in the war as a Captain of a company of soldiers in Amherst Co., Virginia. CHARLES also had a brother, WILLIAM EADES, who was killed in the battle of Blue Licks in Kentucky 19 August 1782. JANE EADES is the only sister of CHARLES that is known at the time of this writing (March 1974). She is mentioned as the daughter of THOMAS EADES in a deed in Amherst Co., VA. Possibly another sister could be JINNETT EADES who married 17 June 1795 to DAVID HOWE in Madison County, Kentucky. CHARLES moved to the state of North Carolina and was listed in the 1785 State Census of Halifax County. He was age 21 to age 60 and 3 white females all ages. CHARLES EADES was in the 1790 census of Halifax County, N.C. In Deed Book 17 page 253 of the deed records of Halifax Co., N.C. CHARLES states he is of Halifax County and that he was of Albemarle Co., VA., before he moved to Halifax. In this deed he gives the power of attorney to REUBIN GUTHRIE to take care of a parcel of land in Kentucky containing 2,000 acres, and also another tract containing 4,245 acres. CHARLES EADES can be found in the tax lists of Madison County, KY as early as 1795. (this is the earliest that I have found him to be living in Kentucky).
He was in Madison County, Kentucky in 1795, 1796, and 1797. The tax lists give supporting evidence that WILLIAM EADES and CHARLES EADES were related in that it mentions the land for which CHARLES was taxed, the acreage, the watercourse, in whose name the land was entered, and in whose name it was surveyed. In two instances CHARLES EADES was taxed on land that was entered in the name of WILLIAM EADES. According to a Filson Society publication concerning the land grants of Kentucky the heirs of WILLIAM EADES were granted land in 1782 and 1784 on Doctors Fork and Chaplins Fork which at that time was Lincoln Co., KY.
In 1795 CHARLES EADES was taxed on the same piece of land on Chaplain Creek but in 1795 it was located in Mercer Co., KY. which was formed from Lincoln Co. in 1795. ABRANAM EADES, the brother of CHARLES EADES was also an heir. According to the records of Wythe County, Virginia book 1 page 352 ABRAHAM EADES conveys unto CHARLES EADES all his right, title, claim and interest to all the real and personal estate of Wm. EADES deceased and mentions that he, ABRAHAM, is a lawful heir in Kentucky or elsewhere. It was dated 20 January 1796. CHARLES EADES moved from Madison Co., Kentucky to Logan Co., KY. where he appears in the tax lists in 1799, 1800, 1801, 1802, 1803, and 1804. He then shows up in the tax lists of Warren County or Logan Co. in 1810. He was a convert to Shakerism about 1807 and lived a communal life in South Union, Logan County, Kentucky until the time of his death in July 28, 1833. He was buried in the South Union Grave Yard in Logan Co., KY. Just before his death he had applied for a pension for his service in the Revolution. In his will dated 23 July 1833 CHARLES wills that the benefits of the pension go to his friend ELI McLEAN. CHARLES was married to SARAH BOWLER 3 Aug 1782 in Amherst County, Virginia. At the time of their marriage he was a bachelor, she was a spinster. They had two daughters, AMELIA and PATSEY. PATSEY was born 15 Aug 1789. There were probably other children who died in infancy. SARAH BOWLER EADES was born 27 Mar. 1757 and died 27 Mar 1814. PATSEY EADES married SAMUEL WHYTE. AMELIA also married a WHYTE.

He enlisted as a soldier in the Revolutionary War from Montgomery County. He was in the 3rd Company, Class 1. He was in the battle of Portsmouth and in service a large portion of the Revolutionary War according to a statement made by his wife, SARAH in 1846. The ROBERT EADS Eads family moved to Bedford County, Virginia about 1781-2. CHARLES, his son, first appears in the tax lists of Bedford Co. in 1785. In 1786 he married SARAH PIBORN in Bedford Co. I have a photocopy of the certificate and bond that SARAH sent in when she applied for a pension. The copy was dated 11 April 1845. ROBERT MITCHELL was the clerk of the Bedford County Court at the time. It says the following:
**

daughter SARA PIBORN with CHARLES EADES.
Given under my hand this 2nd day of May 1786.

You will notice that THOMAS and ROBERT EADES were testators. In 1788 ROBERT EADES Jr., EDWARD EADES, ROBERT EADES Sr., WILLIAM EADES, JOHN EADES, THOMAS EADES, and CHARLES EADES were all listed on the tax lists of Bedford County Virginia. CHARLES EADES last appears on the tax lists of Bedford County in 1789. He then moves to North Carolina where he is listed in the 1790 Census of Morgan District, Burke County.
