WELCOME TO ANNIE'S EINSTEIN PAGE

Who is Albert Einstein and Why Does Annie Want to Dedicate a Page to Him?

Hmm ... a good question!  I'm so glad you asked! Albert Einstein was a scientist, a musician, a humanitarian, and quite simply, a genius.  I began studying Albert's life and work during the summer of 1996 after I had several dreams about him where I saw his photograph and his name and his books in my sleep.

Albert was a simple man.  He bought a leather coat because he felt it would last him a lifetime and he wouldn't have to waste precious time shopping for another.  He never wore socks -- again to save time. He was quite unassuming, not understanding why people wanted his autograph or sought him out for speeches.  When he worked at Princeton, he always walked to his office.  Many a motorist drove his car into a tree when they saw Professor Einstein walking around the corner, that famous hair blowing in the breeze, and they would lose control of the car, and bounce off the tree.  Albert never could understand what all the fuss was about.  Just recently one of his letters was auctioned off on the Internet for the tidy sum of $2,000.

Born on March 14, 18879 in Ulm, Germany, Albert Einstein published his “General Theory of Relativity” in 1916. The theory posited that the speed of light is the limiting speed of all bodies with mass, that mass and energy are equivalent and that gravitation is a determiner of the curvature of a space-time continuum. In 1921, Albert won the Nobel Prize. He spent his life in pursuit of a unified theory of the universe and struggled throughout his entire career to incorporate the idea of a unifying force into quantum physics. Albert died in Princeton, New Jersey on April 15, 1955. Shortly before his death, he telephoned his assistant from the hospital. First, he wanted his spectacles. Then he requested his writing materials. If there was still time left, it should not be wasted.

SOME TERRIFIC ALBERT EINSTEIN QUOTES!

When Hermann Einstein, Albert’s father, asked his son’s headmaster what profession Albert should adopt, the answer was simply, “It doesn’t matter; he’ll never make a success of anything.”

“I do sometimes ask myself how did it come that I was the one to develop the theory of  relativity. The reason, I think, is that a normal adult never stops to think about problems of space and time. These are things which he has thought of as a child. But my intellectual development was retarded, as a result of which I began to wonder about space and time only when I had already grown up. Naturally I could go deeper into the problem than a child with normal abilities.”

“I’m not much with people, and I’m not a family man. I want my peace. I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts; the rest are details.”

“God is subtle, but He is not malicious.”

“God does not play dice with the universe.”

“One is born into a herd of buffaloes and must be glad if one is not trampled underfoot before one’s time.”

“To one bent by age, death will come as a release; I feel quite strongly now that I have grown old myself and have come to regard death like an old debt, at long last to be discharged.”

“I have no special gift. I am only passionately curious.”

“We should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful muscles, but no personality.”

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”

“Make friends with a few animals. Then you will become a cheerful man once more, and nothing will be able to trouble you.”

“I can die without the help of doctors.”

“Only when we are born and when we die are we permitted to act in an honest way.”

“God never tells us in advance whether the course we are to follow is the correct one.”

The end comes sometime. Does it matter when?”
